I also want a 357mag. I want a 6" barreled S&W model 27 in nickel.
Something like this

My dad had one like it many years ago that was stolen when our house was robbed. The one that I buy won't be his, but it'll have to do.

If you have to ask...

My friend has one... yes, that are that good.

6" .357 revolver is on my short list of must have toys.

I bought a nickle 6" back in 03 and paid 600.00. Buy one if you get the opportunity. It is a very special revolver.

My guess is these days one will run you north of 1K easy. The last two I saw for sale at gun shows were 1300 and 1400 and that was a couple years ago. That being said it will always be worth what you paid for. Colt is out of business and the pistol is an icon.

regards,

Mike

I don't recall seeing any pythons under a grand used. $1500 is probably realistic for a nice one.

Consider the S&W 686 pre-lock models, they are stainless and a much better value IMHO if you want something you can actually use and not just stash away to look at.

Python's without a letter prefix are older and bring a premium.
I hope no one offers $1500 for mine.

Oh man! Incredible prices right now. My 2.5" Stainless is pushing $2400 in value. As the barrel grows in length, the prices drop. Expect to spend over $1400 for a very nice stainless 6"

I saw one at a gun show last month and it was mint, in the box, looked to be unfired, still had the tag on it. The seller was asking $1800, I believe. Several guys were lined up to look at it. I don't like revolvers, but it sure was purdy!!!

I have a Colt King Cobra 6" nickel 357. It's not a Python but for whatever reason it's the best shooting gun I own of 10 various semi's and revolvers. It picks up the target fast and is super accurate. Love that gun

I think gun show prices are insane and would never go by them. Pythons are nice, but I'd rather have the 7 round S&W .357. I think it's a 686.

I see them on gun sites for thousands.

Maybe I'll email my ffl about a SW 686 6".

That will likely be my next pistol. They make a 7 shot model.

Seriously though, why the want for a .357? I have one in the safe and never shoot it. Just makes a big ass boom, kicks like a mule, and costs a wad to shoot.

That's one of the ones I just inherited from Dad. 6" Nickel Plated Python. Still in the box, less than 20 rounds through it. Thanks for reminding me, I need to get it out, and give it a good cleaning. Amazing how dust can find it's way anywhere!

If you spend time with a Python you will understand their appeal
But a tuned Smith can be very nice
Revolvers are simple, reliable, elegant, and don't have that crazy slide zinging back and forth! My daily carry is a Glock 19 but i love my Python!

My father in law (soo to be ex father in law unfortunately as we really do get along well) has a blued Python with 4 rounds through it. He has had it since new. I have already told him to never sell it without first talking to me. Who knows now.

I have a S&W 357 that is worth well north of $10,000.00..so cost is relative to the spoon.

Of all the 357 mag revolvers in the WORLD..the German Korth is about the very bestest..but let us try around 10K for a new one.

The Python for fit, finsih, qulaity is a very close second in ones estimation. The S&W mdl 27 is also a fine revolver as well. Ditto the 686. One can not go wrong with any of them.

A Colt Boa reently sold for $4100 at auction. Python SS Elites are in the $2200 plus range. A nice clean Python 4 or 6 is 1200 to about 1700. the 2.5 and 8 inchers command a premium. Your at 900 anyway for a Python beater. A 3 inch is whatever someone is willing to pay for it north of the std rates.

The S&W 27 is a GREAT Heavy Duty 357....I especially like the FBI's favorite in 3.5 inch..A good 27-2 is around 800 to 850. Older ones are more...I do not care for non pinned and recessed S&W's. (It is my pre-war NIB 8 3/4 Registered mag that is worth the heavy dinero...they were essentially hand built special order spoons made when quality mattered.)

Except for the 686's which were introduced in the early 1980's and here I want an earleir revolveer. You can keep the 7 shooters..and the ones with the wind up key holes... On the 686's your looking north of $600 for them...

Prices on all of these revolvers has been very strong and have been inreasing quite rapidily.
