Did my house get cased?

Daughter was home alone today. 3:45 the door bell rings.

It's a FedEx guy, holds up a piece of paper with our address and the wife's name on it, says he has a delivery for my wife.

Daughter tells him that "mom is in the shower". Guy says he'll come back tomorrow.

We are not expecting any FedEx's. The only thing I can think of is it may be replacements for the CC that got compromised last week.

Daughter is 100% positive that he did not have a package in his hand which is odd. They don't ring the bell then go back to the truck.

She says there was a normal FedEx truck in the street. He does not leave a door tag.

I call FedEx to track the package by destination address and they have nothing in the system. Just to be sure I call back and get a second person to check, nothing.

Call my neighbor who is an Ops Director for FedEx and coming to the door without a package was a red flag for him.

Think I'm working from home tomorrow.

How old is your daughter? Perhaps she misunderstood the van/truck? This case would definitely keep me on high alert. Maybe you could call the Police station to see if any other suspicious activity has been recently reported.

Good idea on staying home.

I would contact the local law as well. Get this dirtbag off the street ASAP.

Maybe the piece of paper was actually a mailer with the your new CC's inside.

Call the CC company and ask how the cards were sent. We had this happen a few years ago and one of the people listed on the cards had to be home to sign.

what do you mean, he "rang the doorbell then went back to the truck"?

Little details really matter here, including a description of the guy, time, etc. You need to try to write it down, as well as a decription of the truck, and be as exact as possible. Tell daughter not to open the door when she's home alone, not for ANYONE, EVER.

Don't leave the car in the driveway so he thinks somebody is home. Don't want him coming back on a day you're not there.

Please enlighten me on this subject.

I am well aware that package tracking is less than stellar, but generally they can tell you that have a package, maybe not where it is, but at least that its in their possession...

Daughter is 11.

My neighbor confirmed that if it was a package that required signature that my daughter was too young to sign.

Specifically asked her several times to describe the paper, could it have been an envelope. She is adamant it was a single sheet of paper. She got a good enough look to see it had my wife's name on it which is a good sign as I doubt anyone would bother trying to make it up/fake it.

As good as FedEx is I know they don't always have all the info.

Can't call the CC company till tomorrow.

If it was just "he came to the door without the package" ok, happens. But that and no record of it in the system. I can buy one or the other but both at the same time puts me on alert.

Probably nothing. Probably legit. But I'd work from home tomorrow too, and call the CC company.

And drill into her head that opening the door as a 11 year old female home alone is about one of the dumbest things she'll ever do. Don't even acknowledge anybody at the door.

+1Million

We live in a place where one cannot trust anybody. It is sad, but very true...

Normally she does not answer, pretends she's not home.

We did some reinforcing role play tonight.

Had her go into the bedroom and close the door, I knocked, she opened it a crack and I shoved it in knocking her on her butt. She understands that if she cracks the door she may as well open it and invite them in.

+1

Nobody answers the door unless we get a call in advance. I work from home so I know the usual FedEx & UPS drivers in my hood.

I can't remember the last time I had to sign a piece of paper for a delivery. It's all electronic nowadays. At most, you use one of those plastic pens and sign the space on the digital handheld thingy they have. If you don't sign, they have to leave a 1st attempt notice sticky on your door. I work from home and go through this at least once a week. Usually, they just ask your name and type in that you received it. Seconds later my Blackberry chimes with the delivery notice and tracking number. My mom says I'll never get robbed because my garbage and recycling containers are never left out more than an hour after they're emptied. Anyone casing the neighborhood knows I'm always there.

last summer i was out in the driveway messing with my SC and a fed ex truck drove by. a few seconds later i see the truck stop and back up and park in the street in front of my driveway. the guy gets out and walks up to me and asks if he can buy a cigarette from me. i said no and he pleaded with me and i said no and he copped an attitude and left.

i thought this was very odd, considering the guy has a job and can buy his own and was taking a lot of time to buy 1 cig and was being very unprofessional in both actions and speech. i started wondering if he has some other motivation or was just a loser and then forgot about it until i saw this thread.

We have a screen door that stays locked but can still talk and see who is there. Our door bell does not work anymore. I look thru a side window to see who it is . We dont talk to salespeople , bible thumpers or anybody suspicious. Letting a 11 year old girl answer the door is plain foolish. The Fedex guy trying to buy a cigarette should be reported to the company. He sounds strangeCommon sense should prevail here.
