I think I know a little bit about this job Joe was after and all I can say is that totally sucks. You go into a manufacturing plant and you can't inform the workers about environmental issues in English?

I want my country back. I have have been the minority in race and language in my trade for 2 dozen years and I'm pissed as ever. And all the while craft has gone down the toilet.

I'm working on contracts for two CA state and local gov't. agencies now that include plenty of Spanish language stuff. Drives me nuts that gov't. business is allowed to be conducted in languages other than English (other than Customs officials' work).

You want to work in a factory in safety or environmental these days in CA, spanish is pretty much required. I doubt there are many non-English speakers in the mainstream movie industry, unless you film in San Juan, PR.

The sad part about literature in spanish is that a ton of the immigrants can't read and barely speak spanish.

Wealthy hispanics keep a house in the states for safety/geographical reasons but hardly want anything to do with this country.

The ad never said that Spanish was required. They asked me if I spoke another language, I said I did. I prefer not NOT to speak Spanish because it's better to shut up and listen than to speak it.

I was, and am, an Investigator that looks like a white MOFO,,,,,I learn more STFU information that way. My Dad and his Dad spoke four languages.

They declined to hire me because I objected to be tested by a white manager that couldn't speak Canadien....

The wanker wanted to "hear' me speak my languages.....I asked what languages he spoke and he said Canadien.....

Management staff that can't speak the worker's language and wonder why two people died last year in the factory. I told him I knew why they passed and suggested that a confined space training program in English AND Spanish would be a good idea.....but won't pass most OSHA inspections because even OSHA Inspectors don't pass Spanish certifications.

They were miffed when I suggested that only English speakers do HAZ duty and get a higher pay...

Here's a thought....hire MFs that speak the national language....oh and read it.....

I wonder if they have that requirement at the large public universities that have EHS/ Biohazard offices. Those offices used to be small and rather removed from the admins/ politics on campus. I hope that's still true.

Three of four interviewers sent me after interview emails saying that they agreed with me.

Speaking the truth in an interview may not not get you the job but sets the tone of what you are expected to do and what you are going to do.

This company assigned a 'guy' to do the the enviro work two years ago.

No experience.....as a result of a confined space work w/o supervision, one guy died, one guy is still in a coma. They had no masks, no SCBAs, no fire watch, no safety plan, no supervisor, no FUCHIN phone.....

They use off the shelf safety policy and proceedures that no one has read, only in English, don't have safety meetings, pay off the Inspectors and are facing a multi million dollar wrongfull death suit, OSHA sanctions, double secret probation for ten+ years, don't keep track of who they talk to in the meetings.....violations up the wazzoooo.

All of their screwups are public record. I told them I knew all of their warts.....their eyes got all googly....

I guess I'll just live on my retirement.
