His explanation makes sense though. When you start to mix action types and in his case retention devices, motor-memory can cause issues. He's a lucky sucker!

I don't buy his explanation. I don't care about the technical reason. Unless you are a LEO, or a soldier, there is no reason to being to doing quick draws with a powerful semi-automatic pistol "thousands of times". If your an old west re-enactor with your Colts, well maybe.

I'm tired of military jack hole wanna be's ruling gun culture. That guy is an idiot.

Years ago when I was a cop and we were hovering over a police chase in a helicopter I saw another officer holster his weapon and shot himself in the back of the thigh and the same .357 went through the drivers thigh as he was spread out on the ground. I still remember seeing the shock wave swell out on the ground.

Could be worse if he had used a shoulder holster and blasted a nipple off.

The country bumpkin failed on two counts:

1. He shot himself.

2. He made the video not to be ridiculed.

Practicing is not a bad thing. It's a good idea to be able to react without having to think about what you're doing. I wouldn't recommend practicing with a loaded weapon. I guess this is one of those instances when it seems like having guns that are similar is a good idea.

When my son was about 14, like 8 years ago, I took in to a gun range to shoot some skeet and pistols. He had my old J.C. Penny's single shot .410, he put a shell in, closed it and it fired and blew a hole in the fence in front of us. I asked if he had his finger on the trigger and he said "No Way". I put another shell in, closed it and it fired again. The firing pin had jammed. I'd told him to always point it down range, not down. Good thing he did, otherwise he'd have lost a few toes.
