I'll be tuning in from home for this one.
Motion, thanks for the link!
What do you think about that first turn at the top of the hill? Going into that in a crazed pack, guys in back not being able to see what just over the top of the hill. Major pile ups.

Have fun there guys, will be looking for the detailed report with pics.

Cheers Richard

Someone said Speed will be blacked out for the event...any idea if that is true? May have just been someone posting sour grapes. Now to perfect the secret Pelican handshake for the meet and greet. Any word if there will be one? Or meet in a beer garden after FP2? Friends are driving in the Pirelli cup...so I'll want to cheer them on. Shoulda bought a cup car

In-car view from Mario Andretti's first lap of the new Circuit of The Americas, the new Formula 1 USGP circuit outside Austin, Texas. Mario was driving the John Player Special Lotus 79-Cosworth with which he won the 1978 Formula 1 World Championship.

"It's very green, as you could expect," Andretti told the Reuters news agency of the track. "You get offline a bit, it's a bit slippery. But that's normal for a new circuit. Overall, my impression is absolutely fantastic."

Man, was that Lotus running poorly...

It's a shame that neither car was, shall we say, up to the task.

Finally got our tix on Oct 23.

Anyone else renting car and paying for parking and renting Fanvision hand held? Attending any F1 live events in Austin over the weekend? Trying to figure the best events for live music and some great food and fun! Any suggestions?

We have a car and are staying downtown. Maybe shuttle a couple times to track for FP 2 and drive in for qually and race but don't want to pay 150-200 for parking!!! Suggestions?

Anyone need a ride to track PM me. Jim let me know if you need a ride.

Woo Hoo!

There was talk of there being shuttle buses from town to the track. Any word on that ?
GTS in LV Good on you and your posse for sharing some southern hospitality with visiting Porsche folks. Sounds like fun!

parking

well I saw that there was a shuttle from downtown. The actual parking is at the Austin Expo Center so about 8 miles from downtown and 8 miles from the track and they have shuttles as well.
Cheaper parking is in BUda and they are supposed to have a shuttle as well.
Live Music is everywhere in Austin arouns 6th street and San Jacinto so when you have stayed with the R gruppe/Pelican.EarlyS Registry/912/356 guys from Austin the night is open....

For those following this thread and not going to the race, Speed channel F1 crew did say they are going to be covering the race for broadcast to the American audience.
It would be crazy for them to block it, if they are interested in building an audience here.
For those of you that haven't been following this season, this one is going down to the last race, and could be good to see.

Cheers Richard

Should be interesting. Pirelli is warning the teams this morning that the track surface is very abrasive and saying that if they don't plan for that in their tire strategy, they surely will come to grief. Also, that turn one, first lap - that will be a place to hold one's breath.

Well turn one on lap one is all ways breath taking. I'm interested in how that will work out on this track. With no visibility from turn in to almost the apex, as to what is just around the corner. Then a steep down hill into turn two. So glad that the driver safety cell has evolved so well.

Cheers Richard
