VW Forums
I just became the caretaker of a 1970 VW Bus. Does anyone know if there is a forum like here for VW's. I have visited a few but none seem to be of the caliber I fnd here.
Thanks!

Yea, a lot of us were VW guys before moving into Porsches, and SAMBA is a very good VW site, once you get into the forums,, there are many here who visit both, right Randy.

Vortex is one of the bigger ones with lots of good info but some of the people there are painful.

Yea, a lot of idiots there, but it is mostly water cooled, he needs the vintage air pumpers to hang out with...

Not to hijack, but I've been looking for good water cooled vw forums. I did check out vortex but you're right. Some are questionable on there.
Any more recommendations apart from vortex and samba? |

Thanks for the responses.
I know of the sites listed and I would agree they seem the best. All I have right now are the pictures from the Craigslist ad. To quiet you all down, here you go: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

pretty cool, Harry. I'm in the process of looking for a decent '71 Bus.

I use Samba quite often but classified group is on the expensive side, Vortex is sometimes a test of patients but I log in daily.
Just recently sold my 64 21 window sunroof deluxe and matching windowless panel both of which were unrestored northeast vehicles via Samba. And my 85 Golf GTI Bilstien Cup Race car via Vortex. Vortex is my best source for my diesel cars currently waiting for a few parts bought this week but I never know when they will really be shipped. Current project: My 85 Grumman Kubvan with a VW Diesel drivetrain and suspension I converted to waste vegetable oil. ![]() Terry

Enjoy your bus! Looks pretty solid. Speaking of patience, I'm told you may need that with the Type 2 area on theSamba. Most questions have been answered a dozen times so 'search' first, then ask away if you don't find what you need otherwise you may get some static.
If you do get static, there's always the personal message (PM). Kind of defeats the purpose of a forum site, but... I've gotten into VW's due to the great people I've met, availability of inexpensive parts, and lots of 'tutorials'. Thanks to theSamba, aircoolers, dlk, etc...) I've been able to do a bunch of things myself to keep the maintenance labor cost (and associated spousal griping) down. Here's a few more sites I've run across: AIRS is great for the traveler: WELCOME TO THE AIRS SITE! Air Coolers Volkswagen Gang - Austin, Dallas, Houston, Killeen, Baton Rouge, San Antonio, etc... we are not a VW club. (as you can see, mostly TX), Texas Coalition of Buses (list serv), Buskatiers, derLüftkuhlers DHK VW Club CA.TX.PR INDEX.gif (my little club's site... the club is pretty active, but the site ... not so much) Last edited by thingmon; 03-03-2012 at 12:50 PM.. |
