67 Impala

I was driving in the backroads of NM earlier today and saw on of the coolest cars, I turned around to see what it was, a 67 Impala. The owner came out and we talked for a little bit and he offered to sell it to me.

I have this feeling that it is just a bit too ghetto. I know, I know, drive what you want and who cares what others think. Still, opinions?

Rusty Heap 03-01-2012 04:06 PM

Ah yes, drum brakes and bias-ply tires with engine and suspension package made to go straight and fast.

I know...

Hugh R 03-01-2012 04:28 PM

Cool car, I'd consider it. You ain't going to put hydraulics on it to make it jump are you?

masraum 03-01-2012 04:37 PM

These don't look ghetto to me.

My first car was a '65. I'd love to have a '65 again if I could find one with no rust and a manual trans.

That sir, is not a ghetto car...

Hugo930 03-01-2012 04:46 PM

It's a great looking car. I'll go back on Saturday or Sunday and look at it closer. I was in a rush. I've never owned an American car so it would be a change for me.

Hugh R 03-01-2012 04:52 PM

If you get it, rebuild the front end with the new suspension bushings, made a whole lot of difference with my son's 72 Cutlass. Still steered like a boat, but better.

porsche4life 03-01-2012 05:02 PM

Big american iron is fun to go cruise on a summer night in.... Just realize what it is good for, and enjoy that....

regency 03-01-2012 05:21 PM

My Father-in-law has one, he bought it new, 327, Power convertible top, power windows....cool.

get the Hotchkis suspension parts, and they probably will be better than a boat ;)

That vintage Cutlass would have coilover springs in the back. My buddy has a '70 that he put boxed lower control arms and a big sway bar on in the back, it is a W-30, or somtheing like that, enough torque to alter the rotation of the Earth., dig the old American iron.

I like about a '65 in an Impala, hard top coupe, though there was a '62 at the Autorama a few years ago that was a perfect resto, like it was brand new 409, better than brand new probably.

'67 Chevys !!!

Fond memories.

A '67 Impala was the car in which I learned to drive.

White, with a medium blue vinyl interior, a 327 and 4bbl. Definitely NOT ghetto.

At one point my dad asked why the speed alert on the family car was turned all the way off the end of the speedometer's travel.......Of course I couldn't tell him that my friends and I got tired of hearing it during a "let's see what she's got" high speed run on an almost empty local freeway.....

The first car I owned was a '67 Camaro, also with a 327 and 4bbl.

I sure wish I had either one of them now....

jcommin 03-01-2012 06:50 PM

IMO, the 65-66 Impala are the best looking.

dw1 03-01-2012 06:56 PM

Ghetto - NOT

Something that looks like this - Ghetto? No way.

Just big classic 'murican muscle. Ideal for the Saturday night cruise. And car shows.

Yes, my Baby Boomer is showing. That and the fact that I'm originally from De-troit.

I can't tell you how many countless miles I have done in a 67 Impala Station Wagon. Special ordered by my Dad with a 396 and Turbo 400 trans. No a/c and miles of flatulence. He drove that car over 300K. Good lord, no wonder I was car sick as a kid.

Now me? I had a 63 4 door hardtop as my first car.

Like me a chevy.

When I was in high school (loooong tme ago) my dream car was a 62 Impala SS with the 300 HP 327 with four on the floor.

Adam 03-01-2012 08:23 PM

Jack - I sometimes wish mine was a 4-speed. Mine's a "Hardtop Sport Sedan" (pillarless 4-door).

I've got a repro owner's handbook and even an original '62 sales brochure that I could scan in and post if people are interested.

Jim Bremner 03-01-2012 08:26 PM

Wait till you watch one make a turn. the camber gain is INCREDIBLE! Neighbors across the street had one. You can fir 4 live men in the trunk or 7 not so live men

onewhippedpuppy 03-01-2012 09:24 PM

Only ghetto if you make it so. Otherwise they're fantastic looking cars, and probably a blast to cruise around in.

The trunk of my '65 measured 6' x 6' (maybe just a tad less than 6 deep).

Oh well. We can always count on the troll "playa" to ruin a perfectly good thread with an eyesore.

Where's the Taste Police when you need them?

(btw, this is the car of Albert Galavitz, and the photo is from "Rides" magazine back in 2010)

masraum 03-03-2012 05:35 PM

I'm not big on low rider stuff, but that's not half bad.

The interior views may change your mind.

Look, I appreciate the effort. Heck, almost anyone who works on cars is ok in my book, but sometimes the extremes of their work are a bit hard to agree with.

But then, I'm sure there are some misguided individuals who don't agree with Reaper930's work (the ultimate badass tribute 935). ;)

dipso 03-03-2012 06:08 PM

I had a 62 convertible. Fun car.

One of the iconic cars of the 60's and 70's. Perfect example of my thread on the end of creativity in our society.

Growing up as a preteen my older brothers friend "Slim" loved Impalas. Owned quite a few. They were all sleepers so he could wax other hot shots off the line at red lights. This was in the mid-late 60's during the muscle car golden age.

When I was in my last year of college at UF, myself and another senior in the Horticulture program were chosen to live in a cottage at the department's greenhouse and research facility. In exchange for rent we looked after the place after the day employees left and on weekends. It was a sweet deal having access to all those greenhouses and the huge conservatory after hours. I gave more than one date midnight tours the likes of which they could never get from anyone else. But I digress.....my roommate [Gary Ingram] had an old Impala...that metallic blue color that was so popular. It was a 70 something. Ah memories.....

azasadny 03-04-2012 06:33 AM

They can be great cars and you can do alot to them for not much $. Post pics if you get a chance. Thanks!

intakexhaust 03-04-2012 07:16 AM

We had a new 1967 Impala pea-green with a vinyl top in the family. It had a small 283c.i. and two speed auto. Looked and ran great for many years until one of my sisters inhereited it and she plowed into someone or something and off into the dust it went. Would have loved to have that sled today.

Hugo930 03-04-2012 07:28 AM

I went back yesterday afternoon, well over 3 hours worth of driving. No old man, no car. Some random guy came up, nice enough but wouldnt give me contact info nor the name of the old guy. I left my card.
If you haven't been to some of the old towns in northern New Mexico, it is like stepping into the past and when you veer off the main road, eyes start following you.
I also looked at an early 60s nova but it was rotted. Any suggestions on what other cars to look at besides the gto and mustang (only cars that I know of).

azasadny 03-04-2012 08:19 AM

Ford Falcons are cool, too!

jyl 03-04-2012 08:30 AM

Get it! Way cool. Then put Fuchs replicas on it.
