The situation in post #53 is covered in the NEC so is that possible or safe?

No that would be 2 - 115 volt receptacle strings.

All I was saying to the original poster is this situation may exist. It surprised me when I found it.

Why is this so difficult? Of course Rick is correct, but one could wire that differently and have 230v. One could even wire a 230v machine with those wires and have a 120v light for the work. No additional wires needed.

Well, just to be perfectly clear, you would need 2 additional wires only between the devices if you want 230 at each location. But, I digress.

Because some of us are engineers and some aren't. I'm done, I bought this was obvious, I guess it isn't.
