You missed the point, pull the body off what, as in , how can you pull the body if the car has a monocoque ?
And the Cayman and Boxster both have a monocoque, as do all Porsches, except amongst some rare and old others, the 904 ..

the point would be if you can cut the top off a Cayman you can cut the body off. Can you replace a fender?

"The article said it's Boxster based. I don't want to get into a Cayman-Boxster debate, but those are 2 very different cars. The pics look like it came from a Boxster. I can't see cutting the Cayman roof to make it look like the 904. Wouldn't it be easier the start with a Boxster and add the roof?"

The car's roof line and B pillar looks quite different than a Cayman. If the donor car must be a roofless, bodyless example, then start with a Boxster. They cost less and are more plentiful than a Cayman.

The proportions are off. Interesting idea, but not there yet.

Not diggin' how low it is, or the wheels. Putting streetable wheels and tires, and streetable ground clearance, is going to make it look just as tacky as its over sized wheels and tiny tires, and no ground clearance.

I just ran accross another one of their cars a few days ago, "Ferrari 340 Tribute", uuugggly the way they pulled it off.(Not that the original was that good looking....)

Design these cars on 14-17" wheels, with a decent tire profile, and the style will be VASTLY improved.

I love it.

Sure, I'd rather have a 904, but what do you do?

I'm arguing that you can't cut the body off a monococque, because the monococque IS the body. Hence the name monocoque aka unibody.
You could modify the monococque with yer sawzall, but you can't pull the body off it.

If you cut the top off a Cayman, you cut the roof off the body, not the body off the car.
And it's a stressed part, so the entire thing would be weakened.. So better to start with a Boxster, since that one has been built to work without a roof.

Very well said, Stijn! That's what I was trying to say. However, I butchered it.

Me three. Beck all the way. Less expensive and looks correct. With a 964 era 3.6 it'll have great performance and still be air cooled. Maybe not quite as fast as this, but I don't think the last few % really matters in a car like this.

Yes, you can unbolt the front fenders, bumper and hood. In the rear, you can cut off the rear fenders and remove the bumper. The windshield frame could be replaced but it looks to be close to a Boxster screen. However, they added the bright stripping found on air cooled models.

Inner fender structure and hood/deck surrounds look to be very permanent.

But making and hanging new doors in the existing frames which are stressed looks to be a bit of a project as they are no where near the same. Furthermore, I would submit that the Boxster is a much larger car as is the Cayman.
