Anyone see Elvis Live ?
Anyone ever get to see Elvis Live.
I was thinking some of the older guys may have. I am not old enough to have had the chance. The fact that he never came to Australia is also a factor. If you did ,what was it like ? ![]() The big man just before he died. Still had a great voice. ![]()

saw him in Norman Ok, 2-3 weeks before he died, I think. He was way over weight but still good. Took my parents.... mom still has his handkerchief. He would wipe the sweat off his face and throw it in the audience. He threw and I jumped to get it, came down with it got mauled by people, the last lady I was fighting with to get it was my mom, LOL. Told her I was getting it for her. She replied damn right u were. Sad deal when he died....

I was in HS when he died and he had not exactly mounted any world tours in the years previous. So no, unfortunately never got to see him live. That would have been a highlight of my life.
I have an Elvis live story that involves my Dad getting some friend tickets to see him in Vegas on his big comeback concert, can't remember the year. My dad had some pretty serious juice in LV even though he never went there. He was a criminal defense lawyer and was friends with Morris Shenker who owned the Dunes at the time. Shenker was Jimmy Hoffa's lawyer. All of the main characters in the film, "Casino" were real people that my dad knew. Anywhooo, some friends from Mpls were in LV and wanted to go to the big Elvis show. My dad called Shenker and the response was, "Anything but that...I can't even get tickets for myself." So my dad told his friends that he tried but could not hook them up. Then at the 11th hour, Shenker called my dad and had 2 tickets for the Minnesota people. Maybe he had someone whacked and took their tickets(?) Either way, they got to go and it was a big deal for them. My dad has absolutely never gone there even though he would have been treated pretty well. Doesn't like Vegas. Wish that story involved me. I love Elvis. |

My dad got tickets for my mom and sister in '74-'77 when he came to Johnson City, Tn. I think he came through twice and they went both times.
I took mom to see an impersonator at Fort McDowell Casino a few years ago. He the "1969 black leather Elvis" and she loved it. I enjoyed the show as well and I think he still performs at Casino Az. Wish I could have seen the real deal, tho. I had no interest in going back then. Here's why... My sister is 2 years older than me. Mom was a homemaker for the most part. Whenever we went anyplace, I had to sit in the back seat while mom and sis blared Elvis and sang along out of key. It was torture for me. When he passed, sis flipped out and stayed home from school for nearly a week!

___________________ He was making several appearances in the Midwest. We went to see him in Springfield MO. Had very good seats close in and just to stage-right. He looked bloated, overweight, pasty skinned - but still could sing well. After the first song, my wife ( who was/is an R.N. ) turned to me and said, "He doesn't have long to live." Indeed, it was obvious to many, his life had somehow gone 'bad'.

I was stationed( USN) outside if Memphis and drove out to Graceland and saw Elvis leaving and he stopped us and talked about getting some BBQ. We also met The Reverend Al Green. Memphis was cool in July of 77.

I almost got to meet him. I know that is like saying I almost won the lottery. Elvis was scheduled to meet with Gov. George Wallace but canceled. I was a news photographer and I was there at Wallace's office all the time for meetings.

I went to his first concert after he got out of the army in 1961. It was in the (huge) Bloch Arena in Honolulu and the big question for weeks before the show was "will he wear the gold suit?" He compromised and wore the gold jacket but not the trousers. There was so much screaming going on that it was more "event" than concert and almost no one noticed when he sang "I taught you how to milk a cow" instead of "love and now".

My wife saw him twice in Vegas and got a kiss once. No hanky though. She went with her sister and BIL who thought he was Elvis. My wife wasn't married yet, so I'm guessing she was 18 at the time. That would have put the show about the time of his comeback.
We have a fair share of his country and gospel music. |

Everyone there in '68 was hand picked. A little screaming added something to the concert, but it was well under control.

Thanks guys.
My mom and dad are both big fans, so I grew up with Elvis playing at home. Now in my own home its the same as my GF is also a fan. Those that saw him live, good for you. Speeder, I feel the same way. Thanks. ![]()

Huntsville, Ala. In 75. Did not care too much for him, but the band was really tight. One of my guitar-picking buddies played with him for a long time (James Burton) and can tell some stories...
