Precisely what I was thinking. Better a Jag than a PT cruiser.

Friend has a 95 XJS...loves it/everything about it. I've always liked their looks, and agree with Angela...now, about their other nit noid problems...heavy sigh, but I'd still be tempted.

The chassis was considered good enough to be used for the Aston Martin DB7---but that V12 scares the sh** out of me!

I had an XJ6 that was my daily driver for many years. A "lump" car. Swapping in an SBC gives more horsepower, though not always more torque as Jags flat make torque, better fuel economy, and less weight. How much less? If you have the 12 and swap out to an equally powered small block, you're going to drop 300 to 500 pounds off the nose of the car (depending on which SBC and how much aluminum is on it). In fact, you can put BIG BLOCK in place of the 12 not lose any torque, gain HP and still loose at least 100 pounds. What do you wind up with? That same exquisite chassis, glorious interior and lovely lines with an engine anyone can work, is dead nuts reliable, etc. The car is already worthless so arguing about keeping the Jag motor in a $2000 to $4000 car is a moot point. We're not talking about an E-type here, we're talking about an XJS (or in my case an XJ6). First expensive repair bill - yank it out, dump it off at the recyclers and do the engine swap. Cars are many things to me, but they are transportation first. I flat will not tolerate a vehicle which does not run. All or part of the vehicle will go to the crusher. This is not a negotiable point. A car lives at my house, it will run reliably - or else... angela

If you're around cars and one of a patient mind, any V12 Jag is spectacular and cheap up front. Probably is best to avoid any independent, no matter how good. You should be comfortable with working on cars, have the proper tools and books. Otherwise they can rack up the cost of ownership on the high side. Don't touch a molested car or swapped engine b@stard. Treat the kitty right and they are a pleasure.

Right now, I have two brothers with V12's. One with an XJS purchased as a giveaway and he loves it even in the hot climate territory. My other brother still has his original XJ12L carburated SU. The 73 is a rare and classy car with just enough brightwork to make it stand out among new cars. As for V12's... has anyone noticed how cheap the big MB's are? Any body configuration, and minty cars for $12K. Feel like rolling bank vaults and matched depreciation just like retirement funds. laugh

My parents had one. 95? They begged me to make it disappear in the end. I've never seen a car fall apart like that. I gave it away.

I'm a long looker. I need more input and I need to go see some of them. I'm gonna take my time. This could be the last toy car I have so I want it right, I waited too long on SC's. It's an easier sell for me too because it's automatic, affordable, and as it will be my wife's car it will reminiscent of her E type of long ago. Albeit in name only. It will most likely be a garage queen.

my old 85 XJS was wonderful. That motor had lots of torque, quiet, smooth. V12 too. Car was solid, but I looked for a while to find the best I could. I bought it for $5000, and sold it 2 years later for $5500, but in better shape like all my cars are. A XJS 6er would be a nice car. make sure the A/C works because it's a hell-hole if it does'nt. No air circulation. Good luck.
