Got a speeding ticket

Driving the 57 Gullwing to cars and coffee this morning an Orange County sheriff lasered me going 67 in a 45. 5:45am, i drive oso pkwy everyday, what the hell?

15 over is the real speed limit in most parts of CA. Anything over that and you're getting taxed. Sorry.

Check the VC, but you are pretty much screwed and should be prepared to be so at those speeds.

I drive this road every day too. Its so easy to go 60 plus on this road with out even thinking twice.

If you drive it when there are other cars on the road if you aren't doing 60 you'll get run of the road.

Bummer ticket.

There are speed limits for a reason - namely to protect people in built up areas. It is hard to accept that u have committed a wrongdoing but like the above poster says, man up and pay the fine. A lawyer in our area, a defense lawyer recently got a speeding ticket and fought it and won! Take responsibility for your actions. Imagine if your child was walking along a road and a driver was going 20 above the speed limit by him/her. Does that hit home?

Catching speeders is a no brainer for law enforcement and it brings in revenue.

If you were in charge wouldn't you do this rather than concentrate on real crime?

Makes sense to me from a "governmental" standpoint.

If you want to fight it, try getting "Fight Your Ticket in California" by David Brown. I'm wondering if that road is surveyed for 45 mph, but I'm sure it is. You might want to call the court and see if that ticket qualifies for traffic school (and if you do). Even if you've had a ticket or traffic school in the last 18 months, the judge could allow you to go again.

Driving the road everyday is not your best defense in court...

Yeah, getting popped at 22 over is no surprise, IMO.
Did the officer mention the car? Were you able to chat with them at all?
I like to think driving that car would indicate to police that the driver is probably a "car guy". And maybe the cop thinks "the car guy just had a lapse of judgement and generally drives reasonably, maybe a warning is in order."

Not in this country. Here they exist so the state can cash in whenever they need $$ and usually bribe you with dropping the points if you just shut up and pay.

If speed limits had something to do with safety, they'd also have something to do with the real flow of traffic and cops wouldn't hide to enforce them. If they wanted people to slow down, they'd wear dayglo vests and run radar from where everyone can see them, then only catching the real idiots or scofflaws.

I've never gotten a speeding ticket in 20 years of driving. I don't drive fast if I can't see clear ahead or if there are any potential hiding spots. My brother, on the other hand, I'm surprised he still has a license.

Good luck with that....it's been my experience you're better off with a dog in your car as odds are in your favour the cop will be a dog-person more than a car-person.

Of course, I was given 2 tickets once with my blue heeler girl Winkipop riding shotgun in my '64 356. "Following too closely" and "Failure to use turn signal when changing lanes". Yes you read that correctly. The car in front of me for some reason slammed on his brakes and I had to swerve around him - I think it had something to do with him not appreciating I was in a Porsche but that's just speculation. There was no reason for him to slam on the brakes. I was not tailgating until he hit his brakes. I asked the cop if he saw what happened and he said he was watching me for some time before the incident. I still don't know why he didn't see how it all happened. Heck, my girl could have been injured but didn't matter - he held me for 30 minutes to write those tickets even though I was polite through the whole process and had all my legal papers in order. There was even an accident that happened (rear-ender it looked like) right in front of the shopping center we pulled into and he didn't even make the decision to go there instead of writing me up. What a total tool!

So much for using common sense enforcing the law.

Wondering if you (or anyone) has any experience with the TicketAssassin shareware?

I got ticketed for 72 in a 55 in the middle of nowhere (CA 58 heading west approx 70 miles east of US101 - it is called the Blue Star Memorial Hwy and it was built especially for 911's!)

It was mid-day with great visibility, I was heading downhill and unlucky me, the CHP was having lunch under a tree with his radar gun aimed up the hill. My Escort alerted me but there were obstacles and he tagged me before I had a chance to slow down. I had not seen another vehicle for more than 30 minutes and I was driving well within the safety of the road, weather conditions and vehicle/driver capabilities.

The state and county would like me to fork over $437 and while I'd like to oblige because of various reasons, this is one ticket that I feel that due to all of the circumstances, should have been a pass. And yes, I have never debated any other speeding tickets in the past and I've never been at fault in any traffic accident in >30 years of driving, many of those years in 911s.

Anyway, I did not want to hijack this thread and agree with the sentiment that in the case of the OP's, he should man up and pay it. Perhaps I should also...

The OC Sheriff cut me some slack, he wrote me for 62 in a 50, so I would stay in tier one, lower fine.
