what to do
We are considering our first Porsche. I love speed yellow. Left to my own, I would not consider another color. My wife is horrified. She says its "obnoxious". I found a speed yellow one that may be available. She said I can make an offer on that one if I really want it. When I asked if she was sure she said no but it was okay. In the past during our discussions she said she wouldn't drive it or get in it. So my question is, Is it worth it?

Be a man.
Take what you want. Permission for the color of a vehicle in a marriage.......................I'm sorry.

Looks like speed yellow is the color for you. Make yourself happy.

Shes not into anything like purses, jewelry etc. Besides, that sidesteps the issue.

Speed Yellow it is!
![]() It's not the color I would choose but I'm not the one buying the car. Do you tell her what hairstyle to wear or what clothes she can purchase?

Maybe pick one in a more reasonable color or get comfortable w/ celibacy and uncomfortable silence. Get an additional one in speed yellow (now that the first one convinced her that her opinion matters).

Already had one relationship where I did what I wanted and it didnt work out so well. Trying to behave this time. She has given reluctant consent to purchase the yellow one, but it feels like a "trap"!

She brings up valid points about resale value etc. I have talked with a few people who said the color got old after awhile. I cant imagine that happening. I am worried about the attention a yellow car gets going down the road. 10mph over may as well be 50mph over. Blue and black are much less noticeable. She would be happy with blue or black.

She's ok with you getting a Porsche. <-- that is significant.
She doesn't like speed yellow. <-- that is insignificant. Pick your battles. If you press the issue, an insignificant issue can turn into a big issue. Look at it as a compromise -- your wife already agreed to get a Porsche - so if she doesn't like Speed Yellow, get another color. You really don't see much of the color of the car from the driver's seat anyway... ![]() -Z PS: Unless, of course, you find a smokin' deal on a Speed Yellow Porsche! ![]()

What color does she want?
If you do not have her on board.... No blue vehicles are allowed on our property unless they are owned by someone else. This included tractors, mowers, horses, etc. She relented on the lavender guineas because we were sent the wrong ones by accident. How important is a happy marriage? Major obsticle is out of the way, why worry about color! (Unless of course this is her way of avoiding the purchase altogether, then you have other issues in the marriage.) What is a happy marriage worth? Compromise. UNLESS: Well Z-Man beat me to it!

Shes ok with me getting a Porsche because she got another horse (first one had a lameness issue and is now retired) She recognizes that it is 'mine' but to give her no say in the color is not really fair. She is very easy going and puts up with all my habits, cycling, snowmobiling, woodworking etc. She rarely says anything about any purchases I make.

With some of the other responses, it was getting hard to tell who was joking and who was serious.
Funny thing is, yellow is her favorite color. Go figure. |

My wife couldn't care less about the color of anything I buy - just the color of money I use to buy it - red (debt) or black (liquid). And I don't even notice the colors on her countless expensive purses and shoes. Who has time for this BS? You should look up the thread about Nostatic's '87 Carrera from around 2001. I see a similar story in your future.

Everyone is talking about their wife and what she's like as though wives are all pretty much interchangeable. Like a certain year of used car, just some have more or fewer miles on them, etc...
How are a bunch of strangers on the Internet supposed to help you with this dilemma? We don't know your wife, or anything about either one of you or your relationship. You seem to know her pretty well. Off the top of my head, I'd say that if you only like one color for a car and your wife hates it, (AND it's a really loud/obnoxious color that you can see from outer space), you have some serious passive-aggressive issues and she thinks you're a schmuck. But that's just a WAG. In a marriage, both parties should have veto power over certain things, like the color of a 3000 lb. object that's going to be sitting in the driveway for years. Surely there are other colors you like that do not make her sick. I work with color for a living and I love yellow but it's a tough color. It can be beautiful or horrible and cheap-looking, depending on the hue/tone and of course it's all completely subjective. I think that you know your wife and what you should do better than any stranger on a keyboard. |

I had a similar situation last spring when I was looking at a used Boxster. First one was speed yellow Boxster year 2000. I turned it down because neither my wife nor I liked yellow. The next one I looked at was a 2001 black Boxster. Bought that one and everybody was happy(till I started spending $$$ on it!). Yes as the above poster says, it is you and your wife's decision. I need to keep my wife happy. My Manup cards are all gone. My choice of car but she agreed on the color.
