Going to the Masters-anyone been there

I've got 4 days off down here in Atlanta with nothing on my schedule. I'm thinking of driving to Agusta for a Monday practice round. Has anyone done this before, how hard are tickets, those things. I heard Ebay could be $$$$, so I'm taking a chance on standing outside the gate. Thanks.

I had a buddy that used to go down for practice rounds. It's even a zoo then but he had fun. Seems to me he had his tickets in advance but I could be wrong. Have fun and enjoy the 'park'.

I know the event is sold out, just wondering about monday-tuesday practice rounds. Oh well, I'm going just to go. If I get in I'll be in heaven, and if not, I'll just have a cold one nearby.

A cautionary tale; I heard a story years ago about a guy who was standing at the front of a crowd on the edge of a fairly high gentle slope above the fairway one morning.

There was dew on the grass where he was standing and as the crowd behind him leaned forward to see something, this guy was nudged forward just enough that his feet slipped out from under him and he went sliding down the slope.

He gained enough momentum that by the time he got to the edge of the fairway, he was moving pretty fast, and he slid out into the fairway before he stopped.

He got a huge round of applause.

I went to the par 3 tourny on Wednesday with a customer. You will have a wonderful time. Entering Augusta national is quite a transition. Outside the gates is anything but impressive, but once inside you will arrive in a perfect state of Zen. Everything is perfect. They work so hard to prepare the course that by masters time, there is not a blade of grass or azalea out pf place.

Have a great time!

Well strupgolf I am dead envious of your going to even a practice round. I attended a couple of days of an LPGA event in Edmonton here a few years ago. There is nothing like the excitement watching the pros play. Failing that if you dont get in, you can put your feet up, relax and have a beverage while watching it on tv. Those Augusta officials and volunteers do a great job of keeping things on track.
I seem to remember cell phones were not allowed in the LPGA event I attended which is understandable. Enjoy.

It was a wonderful day. We got in and walked the grounds. It was very hilly and the crowds were big, all for a practice round. We stood around gate 9 and just asked people leaving if they wanted to sell their tickets. Some did and others declined. Anyway, $50 dollars later I was in heaven. I followed Steve Stricker, Jim Furek around for about 6 holes. The game they play is not in my bag, boy could they hit the ball. I'm sure going to get in the lottery for tickets next year because I want to see the actual tournement. Oh well, thanks for listening.

Very cool.

I have been to the tournament at least 25 times since 1975, the first year I went. I know folks who have had tickets in the family for generations (club house as well) so I get either Thursday or Friday passes, never the weekend.

My wife, who is a master gardener, went with me twice. The first time she nearly went into shock at the beauty and grandeur of the place, the volume and selection of the floral and fauna.

It is a spectacular setting.

Very cool!

My dad went a couple of years ago, he said it was incredible. He's been to literally hundreds of golf courses (maybe thousands?) in his life, from Hawaii to Florida, played Pebble Beach many times, etc. and he said he's never seen anything that even comes close to what Augusta looks like at the Masters.

I've been trying to get tickets for years, haven't been able to. You sign up on their website, submit an application, etc. It's crazy. You have to give your name and the last 4 digits of your SS number, just to get an application!

I went to Fri round in 2006 when Phil won paid 1k for one pass through a ticket broker online (that was a scary experience).

I have been to all the majors except the British and have played many high end courses... By far Augusta National has got to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth

The level they keep that place manicured is just unreal

Not much, when I do, NAS Patuxent River.

I keep the Palmetto deal for holidays when I play, my Nephew(s) and vacations. Great course.

To the OP, great you got on...did you walk the corner?
