VC and even angel investing is normally done by pooled money or by high rollers who have many millions of dollars to invest. Sometimes you may have an individual who made it big with their own startup and now is an angel in several other companies that he or she hand-picked. Makes for an exciting investment, often becoming a board member of those startups.

With $20k you are basically left to finding a good VC investment fund. Maybe someone here can help with that?

Wow, does that ever sound familiar. We were doing really well up until mid 2009. I thought we'd dodged the bullet, because everything was smooth sailing while it seemed like the financial world was crumbling all around. It was just a matter of the ripple effect hitting us late in 09, well into 2010. Didn't start turning around until early 11, and even now, we're a drastically different company that we were in 07.

Thanks for all the good info - I'm trying to think out of the 'bun' - I'm not a financial expert. I have seen ads in the local Metro paper and on Craigslist (don't laugh) seeking $$ for capitol to expand or to fund / expand inventory.

I would assume that in these times small businesses and proprietors are having their line of credit reduced or eliminated for small $ loans
