Latest Heap:

A very rough '95 AMG C36 Benz. 180k miles, salvage title. Needs head gasket but still runs. It's been sitting for almost two years, I guess you could say that the PO had some issues in his life and parked it. He told me that it ran and drove really well, fantastic actually. He really did not have any reason to lie because he gave the car away.

The good news is that the interior is actually quite clean, car is black/black w/o the goofy two-tone interior that I don't care for on these early AMGs and it has a new engine wiring harness w/ receipt. This is a common failure on this vintage MB and the replacement part is ~$1k.

Since this is going to be a bit of a project, I'll try to update this thread as I go along.

$0000.00 ~~~ Nice find

With some hard work and not a lot of money that thing would come up very nicely.

Nice...my cousin/uncle have the c280? of the same vintage...I liked the E34 I had better, but the AMG version probably tips the scales.

Cousin also had the wiring harness fail, so big plus that its already been replaced

When I say "gave away", I don't mean that I got it for free. I paid a little more than the value of the rims.

This is a real AMG car, (the first one sold by MB, actually). It's a completely different animal than a C280, which was a decent car. A few guys on this board either own them now or in the past and all of them are stark raving bananas about this car.

Well there you go, sell the rims first, then part the rest out and move along.

Believe me, it crossed my mind but I don't like parting-out cars. (PIA). Plus this thing is too nice, (and rare), to chop up. They only sold a couple hundred in N.A. It's way savable.

I'm going to try to research the circumstances of the salvage title but it definitely had a frontal collision that deployed the airbags at some point. Sometimes that is enough to do it. The two front fenders are original to the car, (VIN stickers intact), but the radiator support has been replaced and possibly the hood.

I do know where there is a crashed C36 w/ a good drivetrain. It would be an awesome swap into a w124 wagon. It's been done before.

Cars, cars, cars...

I had it towed to TRE Motorsports where it's sitting in their back lot for the time being. (Thanks Dave)!! I took a few pictures there yesterday, might as well turn this into a mini-TRE picture thread...the usual collection of early 911s:

But the largest boner of the day went to this:

Hmmm..., what's this? A nice '69 Camaro...

Oh look, it's a Z-28 clone. I like those.

OMFG, it's not a clone...

Numbers-matching '69 Z-28 and it's an RS. (Headlight doors). Boner time for me, I love this car since the first time I saw it on the cover of R&T on a track. This was a car designed to race against Porsches on a road track, and they did quite well at the time.

C36 is a GREAT car. I really enjoyed mine. Probably the most solidly built car I've ever made, literally a mostly hand-assembled car by AMG. Great find.

Myself, I'd take the original '69 Z-28 over the R5 all day long.

Oh no.

Seeing that particular car gives me a headache.

I am working with it's exact TWIN (right down to the branded title, chrome wheels and black guts) right now. Owner butchered up the harness trying to "repair" it and now it won't start- we just finished the HG on it.

Oh and mine:
