Got my HOUSE CO today!!!!

GEZZZZZZZZ, I must hold the record for having a single building permit; 8 years!
Finally got the CO on the addition today.
Did the plans myself with my builder bros, he did the framing and had countless others add their 2 cents worth, some way more. Master suite, demo'd old bath room & kitchen added new bath rooms, new kitchen, roof, all new HVAC with radiant floors (AWESOME by the way).
At least 3 nights a week and at least 2 maybe 3 weekends a month for over 8 years. What was I thinking, I must have or I am NUTS. But what a RELIEF!!!ITS DONE!!

Look on the bright side.

If it was all under one permit you saved on 8 years of property tax increase.

WOW, FOR SURE! Actually, the Building Inspector thought I was charged for the finished product up front so ACCORDING TO HIM I HAVE BEEN PAYING 8 YEARS OF TAXES ON A HOUSE THAT WASN'T FINISHED? Doesn't sound right to me and I don't think my taxes reflect that. Going to check as soon as tax season is over (wife is a number cruncher). I tried not to let this be a labor of love, but sometimes you just get into and what you should do and what you want to do are in total conflict, so I went with the gut. Ended up with a pretty unusual house for the area if I do say so.
The kids are basically through the school system now, so I guess time to rethink the game plan a little?
Did a lot of the work myself, kitchen installation, floors, some of the heating and plumbing, all the windows. Then came knee surgery, followed by torn rotator cuff surgery, but you hang in there and eventually it all comes together.
A few pictures.

Nice house. Really like the tile on the shower surround. Do you park on the street?

Cheers Richard

Richard,

Love the shower to, probably my favorite place design wise. The inside is like the inside of a shell, mother of pearl.

Parking on the street, not around here, you would be towed within an hour.

Just want to know why didn't you run the crown all the way up to the ceiling, especially the tall bath cabinet? Who did the cabinets? Nice, Birds Eye Maple in the bath?

Thanks for the thumbs up. There is another piece to go to the ceiling just haven't gotten to it yet. Didn't need it for the CO so it's on the after CO list. There is a twin cabinet at the other end with a double sink between them; above the counter are (2) sections of mirrors which flow from the counter into the laminate valance & crown. The cabinets will have frosted glass doors on them...soon. The laminate is Angire, but looks very similar to tiger/birds eye maple; made by Laminart. The cabinet to the left doesn't really belong there, but some how found itself sitting there when I was taking the pictures. The missing base on the small wall section has since been installed.

Congrats on a job well done! I took three years to finish my basement, a fact my wife won't soon let me forget. Somewhere in the midst of that time was a baby and graduating from college, but I digress. I'm working on remodeling my garage now (much more fun), next on the to-do list is adding a 3rd car garage (can't wait) as well as replacing my rotting deck with a larger covered one. Projects go pretty slow when they're evenings and weekends, especially when you have kids' activities, work, school, etc getting in the way.

Matt, how true, how true.
You got me to thinking about the time line and what was going on during all those eight years and you know, it's a miracle it only took eight years! The biggest reason it took so long was compromising with the better half. I have a design degree for Pete's sake, which I don't really utilize all that much any more, but you would think that might carry a little weight in the compromises. I don't think so!
Anyway, it's all good; 8 years, 2 years, 20 years, whats the difference as long as you enjoy the time spent. I will say I won't miss those last minute rushes to HD at all hours of the day and night.
Good luck with all the projects guys, please post s few pictures at the milestones.
Hum, is there a home projects post on here someplace? I'll have to do a search.

Now that the house thing is out of the way it's time to get to the real project! Now we're talking!
