OK But what about the sealer? Waste of time?

Radon mitigation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Remember Radon is a heavy gas and that is why it collects in basements. You need a way to collect the gas and get it out of the house before it collects in the basement.

My experience with the sealer (Radon Seal) is that it's a waste of time. Ventilation and/or a fan-based active under slab setup almost always work. Sent a pm with more info. and will post more later... I've done a lot of research into this in the last few months.

We have a sump pump and interior and exterior drain tiles that run the perimeter of the basement. How about sealing the pit off and sucking the vapors through the pit?

Here's a pic of the inside tiles while under construction. Of course the house is finished apart from the basement.

In fact, many of the articles state that the reason Radon is such a problem today is from the newest houses being tight.

Stan Watras, who is how we know about radon, is still alive and well. He now installs radon mitigation systems for a living, and does a nice job. His home was unbelievably loaded with radon to the point he set off radiation alarms at the local nuclear plant where he worked. They say it causes cancer, but I know of nobody that has been diagnosed as having gotten cancer from it. I guess if the measurement is really high you should do something about it. His reading at home was 2700. Less than 50 would be nothing to worry about in my opinion. Worry warts will argue otherwise I guess.
