50M. I would then take that money and invest it. The income would then go to a trust fund that would feed and clothe the poor and infirm. I would also pay for families with sick kids to go on vacations. I am by no means rich or wealthy. But my family is healthy and happy. That is all I need. I have seen money destroy families. Not for me.

I think I'd be happy if I could just stop the freakin GOVT from taking so much of what I already have. You pay your fair share of taxes all your life and then on top of that you have to give them a big chunk of what you really want to pass to your kids. WHY, what has the GOVT done to deserve that???

5K would already make for a measurable change, something i would be able to put to work and capitalize on that.
I am no working to get enough savings by november, so i can combine it with my tax refund for a 10 K dump on my mortage(27 years to go), that will nett me about 24 K in the long run and take it down to 23 years. To do this, i have basically put my house remodeling on hold, despite that i have a bit of a construction yard going on. Be that as it may, i'm single, no wife, it doesn't bother me that much. But 5K could either mean i dump 15 K instead of 10 K (knocking another 2 years and 6K nett off my total mortage) or i can get some of my constructon/finishing work going, and improve QoL that way. Or get me a well set up 944 Hell, I can do a lot of things with 5K. give me 500K and i'de probably pay off my house, and relax a bit more Give me 5 000 000, and i go off the grid al together.

Just being able to pay my house off would be a massive change. It is my only debt.

I have no debt and I don't have to work. So I'm good. It would take quite a lot to make a change. I guess more would give me added security. But I already do pretty much what I want. I go to the country club and golf with my buddies, I'm learning to fly and I'm buying a plane. I have an old travel trailer that the wife and I go camping in from time to time.
So unless your talking millions, money would not transform my current lifestyle.

In spite of the economy as a whole, we are doing well. Wife got a new job last summer that doubled her income to close to mine, kids college is paid for, and expect to pay off the house in six years, I retire in 7. At 3.15% mortgage rate, I'm in no hurry to pay it off. House is still worth 2X what I paid for it 15 years ago, What is left on the mortgage is about 1/4 of the value of the house. I think $2 million would change my life. If I won the lottery for $1 million I might retire early, but doubt it. My employer pays me to travel around the World.

Enough to change my job title to full-time philanthropist.

$250k to pay off house and all debt. We could live well on what we make if we had no debt. I took a 40% pay cut in 2007 and it's wearing on us. My wife hates her job but can't leave because there aren't any jobs for teachers...I commute 100 miles a day for my job. We can't complain because there are many others in worse situations...
