Damn Cat

So we got a cat last summer. To me, a cat's job is to hang out outside, patrol the perimeter, and keep the mouse and chipmunk population under control. The Viking thinks kitty's are cute and need to live the house and only go outside to "potty." After years of security in my domicile, in the past month I've had a chipmunk, a frog, and just now a bat in the house. I suspect the cat is doing more outside that going potty and he's bringing his conquests home. I thought I'd had a bit too much chardonnay when I saw the frog hopping across my living room floor. If I find a snake in the house, the damn cat is outta here. Hate snakes, especially in the house.

Same here, one of my two cats, brings trophies into the house, lizards mostly. The other one has the good graces to leave them on the front step outside.

Ours always leaves them right on the front doorstep. I have stepped in disemboweled bunny rabbits, mutilated birds, half alive chipmunks etc.. There was a big pile of feathers the other day, I could not make out exactly what it was, but must have been large. I guess she is doing her job.

Over the years our cats have drug all sorts of "prey" into the house.

Best Story: a couple of weeks ago I found the remains of a gopher in the garage. Contrary to the movies and cartoons, gophers are not cute little furry critters- they got some serious teeth and claws.

About a week after finding the gopher, wife had to take the cat to the vet as it had a big lump on the side of its neck that didn't look so good. Vet shaved it and stated the cat had either tangled with a vampire or a gopher as there were two nice sized puncture wounds on his neck. Apparently the cat won but the gopher went down swinging (or biting as the case may be). A shot of antibiotics and antibiotic ointment on the wounds and he was back on patrol the next day.

I've had good and bad experiences with cats. I'd only own (or care for) a Himalayan from this pint on. Now that's a docile cat but one that won't try to bother you too much.

My cats have the sense to leave their conquests (or parts remaining) on the front porch.

Mainly birds, mice, and lizards. Once a squirrel. Once a bunny.

This is Toby. He used to be a wild cat but we made friends and he decided to move in. Now he sleeps on the end of my bed and is fed five times a day. Anyway, back on topic... He's not much good at hunting and pest eradication and I think this is kind of strange for a wild cat. Sure there are 9 less goldfish, but pests other than goldfish don't seem to be hunted. He's nice to every cat that wanders onto the section too.

I find it comforting to know, that in the event ot a food shortage/crisis, i shall always have a plentiful supply of dead mice and the occasional rabbit brought to my feet by my cats.

My cats are all indoor cats and one was a rescue from the BMW shop where I used to work. She was an outdoor cat for the first few years of her life so ya figure she would be a halfway decent hunter.........................................NOT .
I will say the others take up the slack and the life expectancy of anything in my house is about 12 seconds.

We have all indoor cats (5) so not much interesting at our house. My grandmother had a cat who would bring her chipmunk and squirrel tails. She kept them in a basket in the kitchen.

To me pets are okay but I don't know if cats are good company or not but I have not had one for years. One thing I do know is that they are work. Since our black lab passed on last year life is considerably easier. The daughter moved out a couple of years ago and lives with her boyfriend. My wife and I come and go as we please and we dont have to worry about boarding anything when we go on vacation.

Had all kinds of cats over the years. It's been my experience that male cats are worthless hunters. The females have all been killers.
