Can they be installed on "less-than-pint," pint glasses?

Write your rep. Mention that you" ll only buy vintage, hurt the new car manufacturers, and save on insurance etc.. I'm looking at 60-70's chevy pickups,(restored)to replace my 05 frontier. Just not into all the "driver aids" and bells& whistles these days.

I thought most new cars already had this black box.
I'm pretty sure it records the last 25 seconds or so in a continuous loop.
The data can be requested by insurance or LEO for helping with accident reconstruction.
I think the Toyota acceleration thing basically debunked due to the NHTSA looking at data from various accidents and finding people were looking for a quick payday and not the brake pedal...

The more I see what new vehicles are like, the more I love older ones.

This is already done, as I understand it.

Andrew is correct, most new cars have this, which is one of the myriad reasons a brand new vehicle shall not end up in my driveway anytime soon

+1

All the more reason I'll never give up my older cars. New vehicles suck, they are insanely expensive and offer very little for the added cost that benefits me as the buyer (a lot is to protect insurance companies, banks, grandstanding politicians and government bureaucrats).

I love my '74, my '85 and my '89. I'll eventually get another 70s or 80s 911 too.

Almost all cars built since 2000 have a black box in them that saves the last few seconds of data. It's been common in serious personal injury cases to download that data. Even the most rudimentary version gives you the last five seconds' speed, RPM, etc. that can be downloaded after an accident.

The full blown black boxes on newer cars maintain more detailed data and save it more or less indefinitely. But don't think your ten year old car doesn't already have most of the same functionality already.

If you don't complain now and try to get this reversed even the older cars won't be exempt. They'll start with retrofits in cars built in the 90s during their inspections for States that require one. This will eventually trickle down to 80s, 70s and then all cars. Insurance companies have been pushing this for years. Welcome to the Progressive Snapshot....

Yep, I like old school cars myself. My Cousin was faced with having to buy a new truck last year, as his 57 Chevy PU just wasn't comfortable enough in that old of a truck so she told him to go buy a new one. After searching for a while, he just didn't see anything he he like, so he suggested taking the same amount of money he planned on spending on a brand new truck, and use that of restoring, updating the 57.. Well, now he is very happy, as is she, as the truck came out very nice, so now he is having his 62 Vette restored (but not updated or customized) by the same shop. As one of my business partners says over & over about me, that is I ended up with a new Porsche, I wouldn't keep it, I would either sell or trade it off on some older Porsche, and yes, I have done that a few times
This guy doesn't like Big Brother either..

I'm OK with it.

If I'm in the right I'll produce it as evidence in court.

If I'm in the wrong I'll run 240 volts across it.
