It may be selective memory, but the more I think about this, the more I think this woman was also the one I saw go berserk in the DMV about three yrs. ago. The clerk told her she could not renew her registration because she was missing this or that. The woman lost it, threw her papers at the clerk, screamed and hollared and started storming out. She had two kids with her and looked at one of the other women in the long line and said, "What the eff are you looking at?!?!" Another woman said something like, "Please. You have young children with you." More eff this, eff that, eff you. I was sure she was coming back there with a gun later in the day. Of course, there was no security guard or cop there and I'm sure nothing ever happened to her. Today's episode didn't turn profane, but I would have let her have it, had there not been several other women standing on line there.
Motion, how would you have handled it? Do you not mind people walking right up and cutting in front of you after you've said not to? I'd like to see that. |

Maybe he should have apologized for not bowing and stepping aside once she, and her BFF poodle, entered. |
Realistically? I would have blown it off. NOT worth the BP rise over an idiot...

Rick, I agree she was a complete tool and shouldn't have asked to cut and should have given the scale a little more effort, but maybe she did actually go outside to help somebody and the clerks knew it and that's why they helped her.
Maybe they wouldn't have done so otherwise. I have no problems with how you handled yourself, and I think many of us would have done the same, but we would all probably weigh a lot of factors in a very short timespan before deciding what to do, if you know what I mean. On a related note, give that 30 min. A&E show "Parking Wars" a look sometime. Each show has segments showing the meter patrol, the booting crews, and the people working inside the building at the impound lot and what they have to deal with daily. I have watched several shows, and it's hilarious watching the logic-challenged morons go through all their hysterics trying to argue their way out of the crap they put themselves in. I think it's running on Saturdays at various times now in the afternoon and evening. Detroit and Philly were the settings for the shows I've seen, so you can probably imagine the level of entitlement attitude exhibited, and they always fail in their attempt to skate, so that's fun to watch, too. It's an incredible commentary on the "I'm special" mentality that many have, and it is not a staged re-enactment like some of those shows like Operation Repo. |

What if some boys cut in front while you were in line for a Justin Bieber concert? |

Yup, you got bent out of shape, made a scene, and she still cut, and all you accomplished is making yourself look like an ass.... Sorry, but people like that are going to do that crap. Better to just let it happen, then escalate it...

So then, it's just when you're online that you get tough, eh? |

Great example iLand..... Something like rick posted, doesnt warrant my time. If it was a real issue, or more directly affected my life, not just a few minutes, I will stand my ground, just like I do on here..... |
I can't help but wonder if this story would have gone a little different if tha lady was young and pretty...
In any case I probably would have let her in front of me. It is tough enough to be a crazy woman, and I have no idea what kind of day she was having. What does 30 seconds of my life mean compared to an act of courtesy that might renew someone's faith in humanity ? Women look for certain behavior in men that shows them we are safe and worthy of admiration. When they don't see it, they naturally close ranks. Being right, making other people wrong, keeping lists, telling stories... This is what women do. Men take care of the old, the helpless, the weak of mind or body. We create order from chaos - we use our strength, intelligence and reason to make the world a better place for all. Or not. |
Just to remind everyone, the Post Office is a self defense free zone...

I go back and forth between Montana and California very often. There is an amazing difference between the 2 places. In Montana, we drive slowly, wave at everyone and hold the door open for elderly people. I park in the most distant parking spot at the grocery store and the PO, so the older people can have the closest spaces. While in California, I've learned to tune out all the background noise. If I didn't, I'd spend all my time marveling at the differences in the 2 societies. Sometimes, you just have to smile at the amazing diversity of humanity, observe, and learn :) |
