Rick, I think you handled yourself just fine. I really despise how some people don't understand common courtesy. It's Ok that she asked....but when you turned her down - that should have been the end of it.
Her overstepping her boundries wrt common courtesy left her at that point wide open for the resulting consequences. None of us know exactly how we would have handled it were we the victim....although we can all agree it wasn't that big of a deal....in certain respects it was. The principle of it cannot be ignored, in my opinion. I'm not sure if I wouldn't have physically blocked her from getting past me. I guess it's from my years in traffic and track driving - the instinct to position yourself strategically to obtain the results you desire. Anyway - enjoyed the story of the pushy human - another example of why the human race may very well one day extinguish itself from the planet. |
See my old thread about my doctor keeping me waiting long after the scheduled appt. time. I'm dying of a sinus infection now and am headed back there in 30 min. sans appt. Of course, I don't mind waiting as long as it takes, as I am in abject misery and have no appt. So I'm sure there'll be no drama this time.

Rick,
I agree with what you did. I would do the same and have on occasion. Some folks need to know where the boundary is - and that they have crossed it. Larry |
Rick, you done good! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif

You are in no position to be telling Rick that he over reacted by your standards. You are on a trajectory, whether you see it or not, so... Repeat after me: "GIT . OFF . MY . LAWN" . . . and again, but faster... Like PWD would say it. |
People suck more than anybody.
I would have waved my hand in front of her and said "these are not the droids you're looking for" and then stepped up. Either that or one of my default replies: "who the F do you think you are? Get your fat arse in the back of the line." I don't go to the post office to make friends ;) |

I treat people with the same courtesy as they show to me, whether its in arid-zona or backwardville. If they are reasonably courteous I treat them the same way. If they act like an ass I treat them like an ass. And it doesn't bother me a bit either way. BTW I've been to Butte and Billings and didn't notice anything different about the people up there to support your statement. |
Two wrongs don't make a right, Sammy.

You need to hit the gym more(check for parking) if you can't out run a 300 lb, 50 year old woman, holding a mid size poodle and a package to the counter when the clerk says, "Next"..;)
|
I was at the grocery store a couple days ago. A crackhead was in line in front of me. He had a basket full of fried stuff from the deli counter.... potato wedges, chicken wings, etc. Plus, a litre of Mountain Dew. Grand total: $0. The checker knew his WICK or whatever its called account by memory. It was all I could do not to say something. I had a basket full of fresh vegetables. I followed him out to the parking lot and saw him drive off in a nice Blazer with a bumpin' stereo going boomboomboom. Just makes you shake your head, but definitely not worth the energy trying to educate people who are obviously at some sort of disadvantage to begin with.

On the other hand, Motion does make a good point, we should encourage bad behavior of fat losers thru acceptance -- it will keep the peace. ...well, at least until they demand that they should be able to sit on that there, furin Ferrari to eat their chicken wings. |

When I was a conveniece store clerk in college, a lot of those food stamp bums would come in and buy a $.05 piece of Bazooka gum or a pretzel with a $1 food stamp so they'd get coins back, since $1 was the lowest food stamp denomination at the time. After a few trips they'd have enough for a pack of smokes or a bottle of Old Crow. One night a guy came in with two huge bags from McD's, steaming with fresh grub, the kind of bags with the carry handles for large orders. He did the $1 food stamp for the piece of bubble gum trick. Then he walked around the store some more, came back and tried to buy another piece of bubble gum with another $1 food stamp. I took a nickel out of the penny dish, handed him his food stamp back and told him not to worry about it. He got irate at me. I protested that I was doing him a favor. He yelled, "I don't take freebies!" I said back at a volume that other customers could easily hear, "Yeah? What do you call food stamps then?!" He told me what I was doing was illegal. I pointed to the sign on food stamp regs and said, "Actually, what you're doing is illegal by making a series of purchases with food stamps in order to get change back." He said, "I want your name and I'm going to call your boss." I wrote it down for him and said, "Tell him Richard sent you and get the eff out of here and never come back." Other customers told me I did the right thing when they came up to the counter. |
So motion . ..
What if you saw some fat dude w/a poodle and a bucket of wings cut a line in front of your wife? Would you say, or do anything about it? |

This has nothing to do with the subject of this thread, furthermore IF you had said something to the guy, THEN you open yourself for this guy to holler back at you (as in mind your own effing business). Quote:

Nest time someone tries to cut in front of me while in line at:
the grocery store the movie theater a restaurant a local road the lineup while surfing the Home Depot the local boat ramp .......I will simply smile, do nothing, and remember how holding others accountable for their actions is not my duty, responsibility, nor place in society. Have a NICE day! SmileWavySmileWavySmileWavy |
