removing road divider paint !!!
Hello.
I've been on a mission to detail my car to almost -as new- condition. On the lower part of the 928 there is plastic cladding along with white road divider line paint. It is significant enough to want to remove. Some blobs are around-.020 in height. I can remove some with my finger nail without damage to the paint. But on most, I'm breaking nails here!!-to the point of pain.- I am no hand model. I've been using Maguier's polish with good results on the whole but god help me if I let it dry. It essentially doe's nothing for these city caused graffiti on my car. What doe's one use?-Scraping a bit with a plastic blade perhaps?-I'd rather use a rubbing compound. Is that the key, or is it too harsh. Thankyou

From another thread...
I removed paint from my car (lane marking paint) with claybar, acetone, Goof-off and rubbing compound. Put a nice coat of wax on after and you couldn't tell a thing had happened. Be careful with acetone!!

I'm Polish (or at least 1/2 Polish). Acetone is dangerous , so be sure you wear nitrile gloves, have adequate ventilation and test the area to be treated 1st. A little goes a long way...

Acetone is not for a few spots that are .020 thick. You are right to pick them off as you can with a plastic tool or a small, small blunt edge. Just knock them off sideways.
For those that won't come off, you may have to resort to chemicals or polishing compounds. Search removing+paint and several threads will come up in various forums here and elsewhere. |
