I think it depends on the person Webb. You have a tendency to apply a lot of human traits to animals. Thais is called anthropomorphisim. Most normal people do not suffer from this. The human involvement in the original article is not helping the fish. It is likely hurting.

If it is tasty, in season, I have a license and a clean shot, it will go home with me. Land or sea. I have not bought meat for my family in years. Morally there is nothing wrong with taking an animal's life for consuming it.

I do not seek out primates or whales for food, but I am careful dictating that someone else should not kill and eat them, of course considering that the species isn't endangered and managed properly.

Maybe the other dolphins know something we do not? Maybe he/she is infected,HIV, AIDs, TB, some STD, or who knows. Maybe they escorted it there to die which is what they do. Maybe he is such a dufus they wanted to get rid of him. Maybe they are just 'messin' with humans to see how dufus we are. Maybe he wanted to be alone. If they are so smart why in the world can't he find his way out?

Chimps are well aware of death and the 'tribe' mourn the death of another member. Chimps have also been known to go into long states of depression after losing thier infant. Lot's of animals are much, much smater than we give them credit for.
