Another Drinking Question
With all the discussion about drinking, excessive drinking and alcoholism let me pose this question.
Is it wrong, bad or indicative of a problem if…….. A. You really like the taste of alcoholic drinks. (Scotch, Jack D, Vodka & Beer) B. You look forward to having A drink every few days. A social decompress with friends. A beer with my son, a cocktail on a Fri or Sat evening with the wife. C. Having a drink does not make you feel normal, just a buzz, which is not the intended effect. D. Never drink in excess. One or two cocktails over a few hours. E. Drinking in no way controls you or your life.

Sometimes when I have a bad day I want a drink... that usually gives me pause because I don't want it to be a problem. In the end I'm okay with it, because that doesn't happen very often and I just have a drink or two; I don't get drunk.

Back in college I was best friends witha guy who was/is an alcoholic. We drank tevery night till the cows came home. I continued to drink semi heavily for a few years after I got married.
When I drank to get drunk because it was fun. I stopped after one night when I vomited in bed, yes, my wife was there, get the picture. After that drinking was very occasional. In the past five years or so I realized that I really like the taste of liquors and liquers. Now, I drink for taste. I never go past to or three, even at an all day affair/pool party, etc. I was reading the thread on drinking and started wondering if the desire for the taste was connected to a "need" to drink. BTW, my friend, who is a genius, got divorced because he was verbally abusive, but he is a NYS Supreme Court judge, go figure.

Drink for taste is never going to be a problem.

Maybe not a problem, but perhaps an excuse?

You just have to keep handle on it. For most addictions, most people have threshold limit. If they cross that line for long enough, they will have much more of a compulsion. I would guess that you don't ever want to find yours.

Sounds pretty good to me. I typically have a beer with dinner. I typically have 2-3 different kinds of beer in the fridge, and I'll drink the one that sounds more appealing at the time. Sometimes a beer doesn't sound good, so I don't drink one. Occasionally I'll have 4-5 over the course of an evening out with friends, nothing more than a little bit of a buzz. If you only have alcohol in moderation it's just a DRINK, nothing more.
If you get drunk every night, you have a problem. If you crave alcohol, you have a problem. If you don't drink and have withdrawal, you have a problem.

I know a guy that would berate his ex for drinking too much (3 or 4 drinks) while he was mowing through a huge bag full of McDonalds food. I don't think he saw the irony.

I would say so. It made him fat, which in turn made him insecure.
Granted, it's hardly fair to blame junk food for making you fat. Or booze for making you a drunk.

I seriously doubt anybody has come home and smacked their wife around because they had too many cheeseburgers with the guys after work.
