degaussing a computer monitor
Is it necessary to degauss computer monitors anymore?
On my old Windows 98 computer, I degaussed the monitor as part of the regular computer maintenance. On this Windows XP computer, I haven't figured out how to degauss the monitor, and lately the screen has been doing weird things even though I'm completely sober. Is this a symptom of something? _ |

Jiggly tube is an indicator of electrical interference.
Color shift around the edges of the display due to magnetic interference is why you degauss. Keep the display cable away from other power cords. Could even be a line behind a wall. Does it happen when some other electrical device is turned on? Hair dryer, small space heater, blender, stuff like that. Or the refresh rate is not set properly but that would be constant and is not really jiggly, more like flickery.

Thank you.
![]() I'll re-arrange the power cords, also maybe move my computer desk away from this wall (or room). This forum is amazing... _ Last edited by genrex; 05-17-2012 at 02:02 PM.. |

LCD monitors are ridiculously cheap. Time to upgrade. Your eyes will thank you.

Hey, I never noticed that......what did I join in 1969, I was off the coast of Vietnam.....hummmmm? We did not have any computers on the "Big E" as far as I know back then.
Anyways an easier setup on tired eyes is a 30 or 36 inch HDTV with HDMI-PC input and run a nice video card with HDMI to the set and things are biiiiiiiiig! Last edited by John Rogers; 05-17-2012 at 04:08 PM.. |
