re the ads, I hear that FB has a different presentation of their ads on mobile devices and that mobile is where the money is

Possibly, but Apple has not found that to be so lucrative, and neither have we.

Yes, mobile is looking to be the heaviest use.
Currently there are no mobile ads. The problem that FB faces is how to implement them so they are a) effective, b) non intrusive, or as minimally intrusive as possible. a and b are somewhat at odds with each other. There are other issues with pushing additional content, data plan limits. Every ad will chip away at a users limit. Verizon announced killing off unlimited plans for 4g. Plus the mobile app sucks. Its buggy and slow. The mobile version of the site is faster. Not insurmountable problems but certainly challenging. |

Facebook to me is a big mystery.
In a discussion of Facebook on a news site, people like me that have no interest in Facebook/Twitter/etc etc. are called holdouts. Implying everyone will eventually join up? Maybe, maybe not. I see no compelling reason to join up in the social media thing. Doesn't mean there won't be something enticing me in a few years, I used to feel the same way about cell phones. As it is, I've probably ruined my social standing badly enough on this bbs and the Garage Journal.

People said the same thing about apple. They beat that dead horse to glue. Now who's laughing? Facebook has the potential to become the next google or apple. I got in early and bought 2 grand worth. If I lose it, oh well. I dont see that happening personally, but this way I wont sit back and kick myself in the ass like I do when I think about apple being $13 in early 2003.

Very true, but Steve was a douche for many years as well, remember his own board fired his ass from Apple. Zuckerberg is not the man Steve was, but the genius potential is there, and I'm not risking that much. I am not looking to hold the stock for long. We will see where it goes in the next few weeks.

His own board fired Steve because they did not get it. Apple failed because Steve was not there. History vindicated Steve. Mark is smart, he's not that smart. Right place, right time with a good idea had as much to do with it than anything else.

Thanks. I think that I had heard that before, yet still, that seems so wrong to me.

This much-hyped public offering of an enterprise without significant assets and wholly speculative future earnings is symptomatic of all that is wrong with America today.

I removed my account from Facebook some time back because I didn't like the way they were exploiting the information they have on users. I thought it was foolish the way businesses were being encouraged so aggressively to be "liked" by hordes of self-appointed social media gurus. I didn't like the fact that a lot of time spent on Facebook was spent playing pointless social media games like Mafia Wars and Farmville. It reminded me of the early 90s when most of the folks in offices I visited were sitting at their computers playing solitaire. Bubble gum for the mind.
But there's no denying it's a powerful business and likely will grow more powerful before it becomes -- as porwolf says -- AOL. Facebook User Statistics 2012 [Infographic] | AnsonAlex.com

I'm part of the problem then. I don't give two $hits about Facebook. I just want to ride the hype wave, make some money, and sell.
