Now in 993 land ...
|
Bummed out with 993 not starting after long hibernation ...
So, after 1+ years my 993 is finally back together again. I got distracted with a new job and a murder commute that had me catch up with the family on weekends instead of wrenching on the car. We are moving closer to work in the couple of weeks, so the car needs to drive! I worked all weekend this weekend and last and got it done to where I can finally crank it - NOTHING. Just a nice fast and dry cranking over. The new transmission and clutch dry-shift real nicely but I was hoping to take it off jack stands this week and haul ass to TRE for a check up on the rebuilt trans ...
Any of you off-topic guys good at diagnosing? I started a thread in the 993 section. I don't even have spark or fuel. ![]() 993 not starting after trans rebuild / engine out - no spark, no fuel Cheers, George |

Crank sensor? ECU not connected properly or not communicating w/ engine for some reason?

Denis,
I am pretty sure I didn't disturb the crank sensor. It sure will be one of the first things to replace when it is part changing time. I already have a DME relay on order, even though the old one appears okay in bench testing. The wire connections are very nice on the 993 - I can't see how they wouldn't reconnect well. What if the fuel pump is seized. Would it throw a fault for over-current and have the spark held back as well? A seized fuel pump seems likely after sittting. Right now I wonder what would be an issue from sitting or from R&R. I did look for the fuel pump to give it a whack, but I am afraid it is in the tank. I really don't know how to troubleshoot from here. I hate throwing parts at something blindly. Keep the ideas coming! Cheers, G |

I think Bill's immobilizer suggestion has some merit but no idea how to check without PIWIS.

I have not worked on a 993 but the immobilizer is probably the issue (IMHO). Fiddling with the car, you may have put it into a bit of a tailspin.
Alarm system. On some cars you just have to reset the alarm to get it to start. Your owners manual should show you how. If you have the remote, try locking it with the remote, then unlocking the driver's door only with the key, then starting it. Some variation of that sequence commonly resets alot of factory alarms. angela
