Slapping the crap outta someone...critique the technique.....

This LT is going in like gang busters. The other guy isn't set up yet.

My opinion is that the wanker shoulda had a left arm shield.....the LT looks a little anxious and the baton is outta optimal position....who do ya think won?

BTW....what is a white shirt doing on riot duty? Did he forget to pickup the weekly bribe check?

His eyes appear to be focused on the citizens knee, and with a good "crow hop" should be able to impart the desired effect.
He is overdressed, and judging by his girth, he may not get out from behind a desk much.
That would explain the off balance enthusiasm.

I think he's going to take a swing at the camera. Where was this?

The vest added a lot to the girth.

Cop is serioiusly off balance. He's not watching his rear. Guy in the hooded jacket could put the cop on the pavement with no effort. Big step telegraphs his move. If the guy he's aiming for gets hit, then he wanted to be hit. Based on the target's position, I'd say he was retreating backwards and to his left. I'm guessing the cop hit air and possible stumbled forward to prevent a self-imposed face plant. The target (who looks fairly athletic) probably came close to taking out the cameraman whose lens is just visible in the right of the photograph.

Good eye or better monitor! Now, I'm wondering what the decoration ribbon is. First place in baton twirling?

He is a lieutenant in NYPD meaning he has been driving a desk for awhile.... However.... he may have some mad skilz..Worked his was up from the 75th pct possibly...

He is wound up like Mariano Rivera about to deliver some heat...I would not want ot be on the receiving end of that billy club..

If he connected with that guy it will leave a serious mark....I guess this was one of the "Occupy" marches...

BTW the license plates are the new NY plates

I think the cop is coming at him (black tshirt)hard and fast. Perfect positioning. Those particular batons are used with a particular swing and it's the moving speed of it and the weight that downs people. I youtubed batons for a while as I was slecting a dog walking concelable baton and was facinated by how lethal these ones are if they are used right. They are not meant to be used two handed and in a stabbing motion contrary to popular belief.

So you think he is setting up for an underhand throw under the rib cage with the long end of the baton?

I'm thinking the guy on the receiving end needed some orthopedic work on his knee...if that baton connected...

To this day I remember a beat down I saw at Madison Square Garden when Led Zeppelin was playing....1976? just stupid kids at a concert and they were beat hard.. even when there was no resistance you could hear the thwap of the baton meeting flesh...

Wanker should move to his right out side of pigs leading left foot before he touches down.

okay..i fight like a girl.but

i took a martial arts class growing up. we had a private instructor..my dad and i. i remember learning with a baton like that. it was told to me that it is best used for blocking and jabbing. swinging it around like that with the handle as the pivot point would hurt like a mofo..but it wont have the impact because his grip cant restrain the impact..no?

same with a baseball bat..i was always taught to jab with it. harder to block, harder to anticpate, etc. dunno.

great photos!! the photographer has some stones!!

I really don't know. I assumed it would rotate over other than under.

If the guy on the left puts about 30 lbs of force on the side of the round stick mans knee he will be looking at a early retirement. Stickmans leg is hyper extended and all his considerable weight is on that leg.
