Pushing the envelope....

Now I am retired I am trying to do more things that I would not do before. For instance I bought a couple of ramps and drove my Boxster on them to see what it looked like underneath. Installed a new IMS Guardian plug and the garage floor got pretty oily. But it was an achievement. Going in July for a three day above treeline height backpacking and tenting and the snow on the trails should be gone by then. Previously did the same trail 4 years ago with a group. This time solo. What do u retired folks do to make u happy and give u something to look forward to. I dont do bungee jumping or skydivingMind u anybody can chime
in and say what they would like to do to push the envelope without breaking themselves!

Not knocking you but why does "pushing the envelope" have to be a physical thing?

How about renting a cabin in the woods or on the beach/lake and reading (or writing) a/some good book(s).

Or doing some volunteer work... meet some interesting people.. step outside your comfort zone.

fly my plane, volunteer EMT fireman, golf, drive the pcar, cut the grass, walk the dog, play with the granddaughter. Not really pushing the envelope unless I go inverted.

About 30 years ago I took the skydiving course and was all ready to do the jump but backed out and did not get into the aircraft. My friends went ahead and did it. One hurt his ankle. I have never broken a bone in my body yet and dont plan to. I touch wood and at the same time I am touching my head! I like climbing small hills/mountains where ropes are not needed. I used to take my black lab(now deceased) for hikes up
the mountains and when she was spinning out then I would not climb any further. Now I am on my own I emulate her, when I start spinning out, I descend.
Can't wait to get back to those mountains!

I have enough projects lined up, too bad it's ~25+ yrs until I get to retire.

I've really enjoyed taking a few class/vacations. Boat building, sailing... I cant learn enough. Now finishing a project is another story.

I retired in 2008 at 58.
So far, so good.
The best advice I can give you is have a schedule of commitments.
The first six months I read, read and read lots of books and then I realized I needed more than just sitting around enjoying the fact that I don't have to hurry anymore.
I picked up Senior League Softball, managing one team and just a player on the other. Summer and winter.
I became more committed to the "Classic Rock" band I play in, meaning we play more often and have a weekly practice (today).
It boils down to staying busy. If you don't, you will die.
My wife and I have a bucket list and last week we scratched off the Napa Valley Balloon trip, which was awesome.
I've seen some old co-workers drink themselves to ruin. Careful with the alcohol if you drink.

Volunteer at the hospital or local college once a week.
Ask to spend time with the grandkids.
Play chess? Get a electronic chess opponent and play a couple times a week. It will keep your logical mind fresh.
Every morning, take the dog for a mile walk.
Have a calendar were you see it and keep your engagements.
My stress level is gone! I worked for forty years and started drawing my Social Security recently when I turned 62. No debt = no stress.
Good luck... you earned every minute of it.

I am not retired myself but think perhpas a dog should be in your cards. Man's best friend right? You mentioned your past pooch in such a way you are maybe telling us you need another.

You sound like my daughter, always trying to get me a dog. My wife and I come and go as we please without a dog. Life is a lot easier without one, no more poo to clean up, no holes in the yard. No more long faces when I go golfing. I must say that there are a lot of things that remind me of our black lab who passed away a year ago. An air balloon went by this evening and our dog used to bark at it. As if air balloons did not compute in her mind.

I retired 6 months ago.
Got a lot projects around the house that have been siting on the back burner. My wife keeps saying relax nobody pushing you to get them finish.
I want them finished so can I move on the envelopes I really want to push.
