If he got $10K for that, he'd have hit a home run

You can buy very nice, clean, no-excuse drivers for under $5K

Search SoCal Craigslist sites for dozens and dozens of them

I own a 560SEC Coupe (same chassis W126) and love mine. It is a great cruiser and looks fantastic 20+ years later. Mine has 155K miles and looks like it has only drive 50K miles.

These are last of the hand built Benzes and truly are engineered and designed to last. Cost of ownership is VERY cheap (parts) and working on then is quite simple with basic hand tools and some common sense. These S Class Benzes are the deal of the decade!

For Winter you will definitely need the proper tires.

Do it!

I like those!

I'm not a big whiner about gas prices (with a 4 mile commute I guess I don't have much reason to), but I couldn't stomach the fuel bill for that.

My aunt had one back in the day, and it really did suck down the gas for some reason. Not quite sure why the mileage was so bad, but from what I recall, in real world driving we're talking close to single digits.

I would be looking for a smaller car and newer this is just too old and to big and after about 1 year its gonna cost lots of cash to get the dealer to fix the many little niggles that will pop up unless you have your own tool box,
gas will be a huge expense you may be filling this car up 3 times a week at 100.00 a tank

Heavy on the gas and does she need that big a car?
I was walking out of a store into the parking lot, a huge giant XL pickup is next to my 944 with huge giant XXL tires and a huge giant lift kit. As my 6' 2" self is walking up to my 'lil 'ol 944, a 5' 4" lightly built blonde walks up to the truck, climbs up the side into the drivers seat, and eventually drives off with it.

I drive a small car, my head touches the roof, the size of a car doesn't have to match the size of a person.

And that style of Mercedes has been a home run for me styling wise. Its a 'lil heavy, but good. My family had an old 80's diesel picked up for cheap, ran into the 300,000 miles before going on to something else.

No problem... I have been known to cruise eBay and autotrader dreaming of cars to buy... without the help of wine or the benefit of funds to spend.

I love the old MB's of that vintage. I still have dreams about my '85 300D, the only car I still dream about.

MB's of that era are heavy, built like tanks, and get piss-poor gas mileage. The cars will take minimal crash damage and transfer all of the energy to you. (I know of a lady with another '85 300D who was rear-ended. The car literally took no damage, but she broke both of her legs.) They will also still be running well after the Mayan Zombie Apocalypse.

we used to have a '87 420SEL...i used to chauffeur the family around it in. Best for the open road though, but damn, it felt rock solid at freeway speeds. Like many others have said, built like a tank. A bit long if you live in the city, but the trunk was HUGE!
