45/70 has literally KNOCKED THE POO OUT OF EVERYTHING ANYTHING ON THE PLANET over its 135 yr old existence.

alot of people "scoff" at the round. well until they read how many freeking buffalos/rhinos/cape buffalos/elephants/lions and tigers and bears OH MY its kilt!!

the classic "rainbow" trajectory round.

more fun than a barrel of monkees to build.

any marlin ya find, look for the "JM" proof mark where barrel meets receiver. this means it was built in connecticut before remington bought them out and they became..........."REM-LINS" the horror the horror! another american icon firearm mfg down da pooper.

we have built the 1895 24" barrel 45/70 with leupold scope and ALL the goodies and a 1895GS stainless 16" barrel with ALL the goodies now with SKINNER PEEP SIGHTS. me really really REALLY LIKEY!

light that damn thing off ya better have it set correct in your shoulder amigo.

on the bench they are FREEKING BRUTAL with the standard 45/70/405 remingtons.

we use the 325 hornaday leverevolutions and a lil less ooomph on the shoulder and flatter trajectory. already downed a 3x4 bull elk with this round and very happy with it.

it also would be very good a STOPPING A D-9 caterpillar in its tracks if it was attacking you.

lot of people are hesitant to backtrack with all the abounding new fangled techno calibers. i have fallen in love with 45/70's over the past few years we have owned them. just had nelson ford(the gunsmith.com) install big loop lever on my 1895GS and do a "butter job" on the action. literally (1) finger lever action shoving round in or out. has about a 6# very crisp trigger now.

look for the older ones in blue or stainless. hell if i found a used one in blue with factory muzzle comp on it i would buy one in a heartbeat as "another" lil build project to while my idle hours away.

any marlin lever from old marlin factory.....................is worth buying and building.

crap wanna outstanding afternoon?????????????

grab a 1894 .357 and blast cheapo .38's thru it all damn day, and then finish up afternoon with some .357's and SELF CLEAN all the lead out. hell of alot of fun plinking and dinking with. great spoon for kids to start deer hunting with. great wifey non spoon individual introduction to shooting w/.38's pooper rds. buy em bulk from wally world 250 rds a pop.

I have seen a 45-70 literally knock a deer off it's feet and throw it. It's the kill anything in North America round.

wild west guns in anchorage alaska builds break down models for fly boys also. they really specialize in these.

its not called a GUIDE GUN FOR NOTHING! they are very light, very quick action when "buttered", very easy sight picture.

plus with a simple straight screwdriver the entire action can be removed and cleaned and lubricated if ya fall in the water mud snot etc.

the longer barrels have the obvious reach out and touch someone traits. thats why we went with a 24" barrel and then the 16" barrel for around camp/truck spoon/humping spoon.

a hell of a lot of fun with these. and its a very BIG BIG ROUND!

just ask all the buffalos and indians of north america how effective they were.

standard indian war round was 45/70/405. still find casings all over az and new mexico from us calvary vs apache battles.
