For the gift that keeps on giving? You bet. If I had it, I'd never be able to have sex again in good conscience.
You owe it to your partner to give full disclosure.

Statistically speaking, (according to the article), at least two of the jurors have herpes.

That's 1 in 6 including EVERYONE in the USA. Old people, married people, virgins, people who never get laid, etc...

Among sexually active single people, it's probably more like 1 in 2.

I somehow doubt that. And other than the fact that it's medically possible, how does a virgin get herpes?
Anyway, if it's 1 in 2, someone with herpes has less of a problem morally speaking.

I'm no expert but I think you can be born with it. Again I'm no expert but I think you can have un-protected sex with someone who has H and not be infected as long as they are not having an outbreak.
Maybe someone who really knows should pipe in. If I remember correctly someone sued Robin Williams because he gave her the big H and P Hilton has it too.

Maybe I wasn't clear-- did not mean to say that virgins have herpes. The point is that if that statistic is true, ( and I've read higher estimates of the general population), the percentage of people exposed/infected would be 20% of EVERYONE. When you take into account that the 80% of uninflected people includes virgins, old married couples and other people who never get laid, that leaves the 20% of the population who are decent looking and of sport fking age. They are all infected, based on my informal surveys in big cities. Though the guy in the article was 69 years old. That's funny right there.

Finn, you can get herpes from an infected person very easily.

It doesn't matter if you're wearing protection or not, and it doesn't matter if they're having a visible outbreak or not. I'm not joking. They are shedding herpes virus constantly, from many areas of their body.

Now you know why so many single people have herpes. Many of them lie about it (because they don't care, or because they're desperate to have a date), but the problem really is as serious as Denis says it is.

It's the gift that keeps on giving...

Then they came out with herpes, you keep that shiicht forever like luggage. - Eddie Murphy: Delirious.

I laughed really hard the first time I heard that.

Herpes brings with it a stigma. I met a girl on a dating site and we were getting along really fine until she told me she had herpes.
I hope I don't sound shallow but once she told me that I just couldn't pursue the relationship any further.
Luckily and to her credit she told me before any hanky panky had happened.
And she was hot. I mean really HOT. Slim but nice hips, big firm nicely shaped bOObs and she looked maybe late 20s but she was actually 38.

I was definitely tempted but I just couldn't go there.

The first thing I learnt with on-line dating is that if it seems to good to be true you'll soon find out it isn't.

I have to give credit to the woman in the story. If someone knowingly infected me I would be very angry to say the least.

I think you can be born with herpes. I would hope that a c-section was elected, especially if there happens to be an outbreak at the time of birth.

I guess for once I can be happy about being an "old married couple."

Denis, when they are doing the stats, are they counting cold sores as "herpes"? I think that is the only way to get the number that high.

Add HPV to the list of undisclosed STDs.
Full body condoms from now on.

No, I think the number of HSV-2 cases is actually that staggering. Hell, it may outnumber HSV-1 (cold sores).

I also think there is a lot of misinformation on the subject as a whole. If you Google, you will find lots of conflicting statements. I think I would only trust something like the Mayo Clinic site.

Cold sores are herpes, just type 1 as opposed to type 2. AFAIK, the only difference is the location of the sores. I could be wrong about that, there may be other (slight) differences.

The infection rates that I've read about are for type 2 and I was always shocked by them.

According to medical scholars, the types are different, but one can lead to the other with contact. It has to be direct contact as with AIDS. Again, I use Mayo as the main source, but I have read other sources.

As Denis says, the incidence is high. I have to wonder. Herpes has been around forever. The Romans knew it. AIDS is new by that standard, and yet the Herpes epidemic spreads now more than ever.

uh oh:Drug-resistant gonorrhoea has spread across the world, say health officials | Society | guardian.co.uk
"The organism is what we term a superbug – it has developed resistance to virtually every class of antibiotics that exists," she told a briefing in Geneva. "If gonococcal infections become untreatable, the health implications are significant."

If left untreated, gonorrhoea can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirths, severe eye infections in babies and infertility in both men and women."
