Eric Clapton's new Ferrari

Have you guys seen this? I absolutely love the styling - nice touches from the older cars, but not a cheap or nostalgic looking retro design.

I've been turned off by most of Ferrari's recent designs - kind of Japanese looking. Now they make one of the best looking cars in quite a while and they only make one (not like I'd be able to afford it).

I think it looks clumsy, and not nearly as nice as the Italia on which it is based.

Paying $3 million for just that extra one-off bodywork seems absurd.

My opinion of Clapton has just gone down a notch.

I'd take a well-cared-for Daytona or 512BB over that anyday.

I think as we get older, things/people/events from years past are often looked at though a veneer that can romanticize things and make it hard to let go. It’s well known that EC was/is a big fan of the Boxer and this was an opportunity for him to create something special, a chance for him to take a trip back to a different time. It’s too bad he couldn’t of had the V12 he originally wanted as I’m sure that would have added to the spirit of the project.

He’s a great guy with impeccable taste not limited his prancing horses. As with most people who make their living though creativity, it’s quite common to be bombarded with criticism and speculation…but in the end all that matters is what your instinct and spirit dictate.
I think it’s a great effort with a lot of little details that could use some resolving, but I see other elements that I think are right on. In the end, all that matters is whether he cracks a smile every time he fires up the ignition.

I like it. Better than the styling of the 458, IMO.

The Ferrari Special Projects is not about or for us. It's an exclusive just for those with unlimited funds wishing to have one-off builds (like Sir Anthony Bamford) and the factory thinks you fit the criteria. You can't just walk in with a billion dollars and tell them to build. There's actually many others but we simply don't read or learn about them.. just as those elusive owners want.

Kudo's to Mr. Clapton and money aside, I'm sure nobody here would refuse that car.

I like it better than any modern Ferrari. Well, the P4/5 might be a competitor. It is a shame there is only 1.

This EC F car go...hark-ens back to the 1920's and 30's when a well heeled swell could go to the likes of a Duesenberg, Packard, Cadillac, Pierce Arrow, Rolls Royce and a host of other prestigious car manufactures and have their chassis decked out and draped with a custom body.

So if you have the stroke and the desire for something a cut above the rest then Ferrari is you maker.

Most of you don't remember when you could get a custom bodied auto by a design studio because this practice virtually ceased after world war 2 in favor of mass production and the cost of one off not being practical as a profit center for the major auto makers. As such most of U have been indoctrinated by the conformity of mass production and see anything that is out of the ordinary as being outlandish or even freakish. MUCH THE PITY. I personally think it is a beautiful automobile.

Since almost every car out there is a unibody-type design, how difficult/easy is it to just change bodypanels? From an engineering/safety perspective--not from a machine tooling one. I thought the whole monocoque--including exterior body panels, to a degree--lent structural support to the frame and crash protection of a modern car.

Harkens back to the 80s, but I'm not so sure it's an improvement on the 458 (which I actually like, as busy as it is).

I'll drive it.

What really amazes me is that Ganster rappers haven't had custom coachwork done like the '20's and 30's movie stars

Have you seen what Kanye and Jay-Z did to a Maybach? Methinks it is a good thing that more do not pursue that avenue.
