Surprised he got a favorable court decision, his lawyer claimed he didn't have a leg to stand on.

I am all for his being in the Olympics, just as long as he runs with what is naturally his.

I'm in the no crowd. The rules are the rules. He needs to play by the rules that have been set or find a race or create a race with rules that apply to him. The rules should not be changed to meet his needs needs. Chances are he will not qualify and if he does most likely he will not medal. But, the precedent which in my opinion is the danger has been set and that is the slipper slope. Prosthetics will get better and better and one day their ability will surpass that of a natural limb. Look at robots on an assembly line welding parts or painting cars they do the job better than a human, more efficiently, they don't tire and it is the same process constantly over and over. Look at computers my lap top has more ability than the first computers that sent a rocket to the moon. So in time prosthetics no doubt will give an unfair advantage against a natural limb.
Just to make it interesting, I can see where an argument could be made that running shoes aren't any different than his prosthetic and may create an unfair advantage. Or that one shoe may be more advantageous than another. They get strapped on and it creates a barrier between the body and the track surface. They should just add a category to the Olympics to allow him to run. They can call it the "modified" or "unlimited" event. |

Does the IAAF and the USOC specifically ban hermaphroditic athletes?

I'de say no, not allowed.
He can't have knee , foot, ankle injuries or over stress them.. cause he ain't got em He has waaaaay less muscles to worry about.. Waay less muscles that can hurt. If a normal runner over does it, sprains his ankle, he's out of the look to recover if this guy over stresses the equipment, he get's a new one out of the closet. |
