Following the thread and considering. Always the cat and mouse game yet I like the social network warning idea, assuming its reliable. For getting hit with laser, no way can you beat that. I read they aim for the front plates, so is there some stealth screen or masking the front of the vehicle that really deters (no gimmicks please)?

Lastly, I was hit by VASCAR and from above (costly for the states to operate) so the only way around that is radio scanner and learning the frequency. Lots of busy stuff to play with while driving and keeping attention with.

My first serious day using the new unit with the live addition, I beat an extremely well hidden laser position because the unit gave me a countdown to the exact location. The smartphone shows you where other detections have occured, type and time. The actual radar detector shows distance to the reading and a countdown. Works very well.

You also have a button on the live unit which basically takes a GPS reading and reports (Live COP). This is good for reporting a police vehicle which isn't active or is using instant on. After a couple of hours, the reports drop away. It also has the database for the red-light camera.

Thanks for the tips. I like it and looking at them now. V1 might work but seems very dated and lacking with the networking ideas.

I also see the Escort site has some very high end and remote set-ups. Despise all the gadgets suctioned to a windshield floating for all to see including the patrol. For years, I black taped the lights and was more tuned to the audio, especially on a bike (earphone jack). Reaction time is crucial when hitting the hooks hard. I've beaten them in the past, yet pulled over as a warning. Couldn't lock down a reading on rapid deceleration but maybe they now can.

Our local city officer sits where there is always a known false alarm. How do they work in cases like that?
I've run into that exact situation with my V1.

The V1 would still work because it tells you how many radar "contacts" it sees as well as what bands. I suspect the passport gets around the counter by allowing you to "learn" the false contact (which, I believe, includes the frequency of the contact). After that you'd only alert on the genuine contact.

It will alert on the false things, but basically tells you they are false. It also records these on the net. It also seems to do a good job with instant on and prioritizes the contacts.

Just because it's the most popular on PP doesn't mean it's best. Do your research....

Any idea how Virginia works with their detector ban? Unfortunately, many of my traveling takes me through there and I just got a ticket a few weeks ago. Would of avoided it if I had it on. Can they tell if you have it and do certain detectors remain stealth?

As long as your not speeding, your record should hold up for some time.;)

What fun is that? Where has the spirit of driving gone? I'm bored droning along behind Prius and other drivers with big fat ass SUV's. If you have the performance car or bike, you should use it like its meant to be driven. C'mon, we have factory American made icon cars like the big Ford Mustang GT500 now breaking 200 mph and sold for our road consumption here in the states.

Given the right place and time, I see absolutely nothing wrong. Seriously, I don't encourage excessive 'unsafe for conditions or area' speeding, but whats the big deal of 10 or 15 over in a rural road when you have some pumped up ride with manhole cover sized brakes? No perfect world but traffic patrol cops need to loosen their shorts and get out of the revenue biz for pensions. The speed camera debate disgust me too. Don't need the lecture either about taking some track days, etc..

Years ago, had early Sunday morning rituals of motorcycle rides with a very sane and fast group of riders. Always a few cops in the bunch (locals to state troopers). Talking sport bikes here... big liter builds.. everyone sported the correct riding gear and some of us had track time too. We rode tached out in all gears on the back roads. Used the bikes as they were meant to be. Lots of stories and won't mention here but were some of the most fun and enjoyable rides. Also did some serious cannonball rides around this country by bike with a few stealth measures. Deserved a few busts yet for the most part received warnings. Don't think I could get away with that these days. Way too many speed zappers, regs and harsher penalties when busted.

A jammer would be fun addition to the arsenal.

i quit speeding for the most part in my personal cars. speeding tickets are expensive here..they bend you over right there roadside. it aint pretty. i go 2 mph slower than the speed limit. i wear a dusty blue wig for street creds with the buick crowd.

Yes... our Goodwill is definitely different. Sadly they've started researching stuff and prices have increased significantly on some items. Still, plenty makes it under the radar - like the Thorens turntable I got yesterday for $8.

Detectors are not illegal to own, only to operate. The law states that is any occupant of the vehicle can supply power to the unit it is illegal. I have cut the power cord on mine before and avoided the ticket. It is a non moving violation, nothing more than a parking ticket. It is also private property and can not be taken, although that is a grey area.
I keep my V1 planted on the windshield and just go on.

VA is the best state for running detectors because so few people do it, that the cops use antiquated equipment and leave it always running. A few staties and local towns use te SPECTR detector detector. But the high-end, moden detectors are undetectible to them. Besides, the fine for getting busted with one is cheaper than the cheapest speeding ticket. I ran one in VA for years, never got caught and it saved me plenty of times.

+1 on the Valentine. Forget about the photo of the guy who builds them. They work fantastically well.

So basically its just an additional fine. I thought they confiscated it also which was my biggest concern. I have an old Bel that works fine and will keep it plugged in.
