What is the best radar / laser detector?
I am considering getting a new radar / laser detector... What is good / bad with the new ones?
The valentine one looks interesting, as does the passport. How are the cobras? |
Many threads on this topic. V1. done....move along.;)
|
Lots of threads on this do a search.....but the V1 seems to be the winner.

My Valentine 1 has paid for itself many times over...

As an alternative, I picked up the Passport 9500 ix, and added the Passport Live feature. It connects your smarphone to the radar detector. As you drive around and pickup radar signals, they are recorded on the net, as well as other people. This information is backfed to the radar detector so you are alerted to previous radar signals.

I've got the V1 and love it. I've even taken it on vacations (carried in luggage for use in a rental).
I think the new passport 9500 with the gps feature are probably top notch too. I really like the arrows and counter On the V1. They have both saved me a time or two. I've even gotten lucky with laser a couple of times. |
I'd get a valetine but I can get past the guy with the glasses and the sideways sneer selling them;) . Timely thread and I am also in the market. I would think the smartphone integration would be the eventual winners.

Valentine One
Other detectors probably do work as well, and for the social networking aspect-
fine, if you have data access and coverage. Otherwise, is it needed? rjp |
I get an email a few times a month telling me which states have updated camera and speed trap locations to download into my 9500xi. It's pretty cool. However, for some reason, they haven't updated all the hwy. locations in AZ that no longer have cameras, so I delete them manually as I pass by and get the alert. I love the stealth of the blue LED display and I can't imagine a detector having anything else I need other than a jammer, which I'm not willing to buy yet.

V1 plus Waze. Plus don't be stupid and pay attention to what you're doing. Works great.

Are they legal in Alberta?
|
Our local city officer sits where there is always a known false alarm. How do they work in cases like that?
|
Following the thread and considering. Always the cat and mouse game yet I like the social network warning idea, assuming its reliable. For getting hit with laser, no way can you beat that. I read they aim for the front plates, so is there some stealth screen or masking the front of the vehicle that really deters (no gimmicks please)?
Lastly, I was hit by VASCAR and from above (costly for the states to operate) so the only way around that is radio scanner and learning the frequency. Lots of busy stuff to play with while driving and keeping attention with. |
I haven't run a radar detector since November 1992. My last speeding ticket was November 1992.
