He's a lovely young guy. Charming, smart, funny. No BS.

But a god awful interview.

Having a German explain DRS and KERS to an American audience that needs baby steps was complete rubbish.

Keep it ligt and fun which was exactly what Vettel wanted.

Letterman blew it.

It would have been great if Letterman could have had a good one on one with Vettel without trying to explain the intricacies of F1 to his audience who could have cared less.

Letterman is obviously a fan of F1 and it would have been cool if he could have asked better/different questions.

Gonna have to disagree with you....it was a perfect interview. This kid was charming, humble and entertaining. I abandoned F1 years ago because of the stoic personalities, lack of competition, Bernie's dictatorship, etc.

This one interview was enough to make me want to check it out again. I was completely unaware of the newer technology to promote competition....I'm a car guy and it picqued my interest. I mean c'mon....NASCAR is controlingl drafting by making the cars overheat. Perhaps it will do the same to the lay person.

All in all a brilliant piece of marketing placement if ya ask me.

And I agree with you.

Vettel is a very good public speaker. He can connect well with my generation and that is what will help F1 in the states. The Mom and Pop's that tune into Letterman every night weren't hooked by this interview. It's obvious that Letterman is a huge fan, but he went about it the wrong way.

Met Letterman years ago at a CART venue. Lost track if he's still an owner or whatever interest but at the time was well read. I think much of his comedic side comes out during interviews to appease the common audience, but outside of that he's sharp on racing.

Vettel - You go man!

Seb did great, but Letterman just wouldn't shut up. You cant ask someone a question and then cut him off mid sentence with another question each time he speaks.

Letterman needs to STFU and give his personable (and unusual) guest an opportunity be entertaining...maybe try some decaf...anything...just shut up.

Vettel is cool.
Letterman is a major no-talent dork.

IMO of course.

I liked his story of going through customs:

"What was the purpose of your visit to Canada?"
"I was here for the race."
"Did you have a good seat?"

You would think that Letterman would know about regenerative braking and that it is already found in production cars (e.g. Prius). We don't need to wait for it to trickle down from F1, it's already here. Further, didn't Porsche come up with an early regenerative braking for the mixt vehicles?

Making it work wonderfully well - kudos! But the idea and even the useable consumer product have been around for some time.

Letterman knows way more about this stuff than he's letting on... thats just his entertainment game face for a short 10 minute interview and trying to add humor and appease the majority. No, I'm not a fan of Letterman and haven't watched a Late Show episode in 10 years but give the guy a breather. I used to listen to gearhead Dave Despain years back when he was the F1 info goto program. Gags me to think they now all talk Crashcar.

Angela, by the way if you ever meet Letterman ask him about Volvo wagons. He and the late Paul Newman were into hot rod 'sleeper' Volvo wagons with a bit of rivalry.
