I visited s GF's relatives in Plano about 10 yrs. ago who had a very hail-damaged Toyota Sienna. They gave it to me for the week while they were at work so the GF and I had wheels. They bought it for a song and have probably long since given it to their teenage son. There's a certain luxury in driving a reliable beater you don't care about at all.

Sometimes its nice to deal with the known ( your car ) over the unknown (someone else's beater ).

That hail is insane by the way.

Why? You only need it a few months. You would then sell it, not keep it, right? You'll find it pretty tough to sell. You have a guaranteed buyer right now in the ins co. Make sure you do the math based on their final offers. If it is dirt cheap, fixed, then maybe. But be very realistic about what it will sell for when you're through with it.

I was thinking the same thing. Think your just gonna take it out for a cruise to dinner and blammo. Good lord lets slip his distaste for Chevy.

I noticed that Impala when I got there. It was a 10 footer in a brightish green that you can't see in the picture. I felt sorry for the owner of that car.

I may able to borrow a friend's car through July, I'll have to see what I do for those 2 months...

Last summers hail golf balled my Mazda and the wife's Tahoe. The Mazda got it pretty bad and was worth fixing. The Tahoe is an 01 with 100k on the clock. The hood and roof got the most damage, $3,500 to fix but we left it and kept the cash. There is no way the value was diminished by that much. You can sell those things all day down here and get good money.

Back in 2002, we had a hailstorm that did over $1000 on our leased Ford Taurus. I remember it well because it was the day I bought my 911 and drove it home. I got home minutes after the storm and it looked like a battle zone!

Here are some videos we took while we were stuck at the restaurant. I had never experienced such an intense hail storm.
