Bought a sensible used car

My '99 e300d has 410k kms (just over 240k miles)... it's getting a bit old to be driving around 30k miles a year in, plus the AC doesn't work.

I wanted something smaller but still with enough room for 2 young kids, something AWD (I have to drive in some pretty terrible weather), something that won't depreciate too bad, and something reliable.

Gonna pick it up next Thursday (my birthday)

thanks!

I had 4-5 really good cars to chose from, many aren't actively listed so if anyone's looking for a 964 C4 fire me an email. It was really hard to chose, but this car has under 60k miles and is in NYC... a lot less logistics for travel.

Candian dollar is almost at par... that made it A LOT easier.

This is actually my new company car, my boss is very generous (and smart and handsome)

News Flash:

Sector analysts in Saint John New Brunswick Canada report the housing market is taking an unpredicted upswing.

Citing indicators within the market analysts point out that purchase of luxury vehicles takes place only in times of confidence. Therefore the market is headed up.

Way to go Jake!
Lead the trend!

What tires are on the car at the moment?

Best

Way to go, she is a beauty. Under 60k and what appears to be great paint and body.

Now, go lower it pronto as it looks high enough to tip over in a strong wind.

Thanks guys! Car is running on good all-seasons... I've found a set of Micheline x-ice on 17" wheels in Montreal.

Plan is to fly down in a week, and I'll fly my dad down too. I've never been to NYC, so we're going to tour around on Friday & Saturday, then drive upstate on Sunday, cross the border south of Montreal on Monday AM. Then I'll spend a couple days visiting with my dad & brother in Montreal, pick up those winter rims & tires, then drive home to New Brunswick.

Car is at stock height. Mechanic pointed it out during the PPI... said it will handle better if I lower it. I'm going to wait and see how it holds up to year-round daily driver use on bad roads before I lower it.

And yes, I'm going to drive it in the snow. And the rain. And freezing rain. And salty slush...

Thanks! I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I wanted... I love 3.2 Carreras, and I LOVE LOVE longhoods, but I decided that with a C4, I could drive it every day and really enjoy it, instead of a 3.2 or longhood just in the summer. The appeal of a 964 c4 is very different than the "raw" nature of the earlier cars... I think I might find an earlier car a bit tiring day in, day out in traffic. A 964 is softer, and feels a bit more removed, but feels a lot more driveable and less tiring to me.

I was also VERY tempted by 996 C4's... man they are a LOT of car for the money.

Congratulations! You've come a long way from scavenging vegetable oil and grease. Enjoy it, you've earned it!

I picked up 40 gallons of the smelly stuff today! Funny coincidence, the guy I'm buying the car from has also converted mercedes diesel to veggie oil.

I've actually thought about converting a 911, you know. Kennedy Engineering makes adapter plates to mount a VW diesel (or any vw i4) to a 915 or g50 transmission. They are pretty much already set up for a two-tank veggie system... use the oil tank for diesel, and the main fuel tank for veggie oil. PLUS, the 964 c4 awd system runs completely independantly of the engine electronics... so if you swapped the engine you'd still have the awd. I think a veggie diesel 964 c4 could make a pretty cool commuter car. Oh yeah, I've thought about it!

NICE! I drove my 911T in the snow often and it was a blast. I would happily drive my 996 in the snow except it has summer tires, plus I have to have a reason to justify my Land Rover. With some snow tires that C4 should be unstoppable, at least until it gets deep.
