Perhaps being an ex bartender myself I was a bit critical but I seriously doubt the backbar (floor, sinks) had been cleaned since all those marvelous memories of the '80s. Absolutely the filthiest bar we experienced in MEX. I suggest you keep current on your antibiotics and drink healthy doses of Tequila if you risk ingesting anything from that place. YMMV.

TJ In January: Dry, dusty, and smelly. They still burn their trash and that's a big problem!

Why TJ? Why not Jaurez? Seriously, if you have to ask...

I'm also very surprised that you would consider placing your wife in that kind of danger. Surely, living in LB, you are familiar with what's been happening in US/Mex border cities for the past several years?

The responses you got back are about what I expected from the "brain trust" here. If you want to go I would suggest driving down and doing the following:

- Plan on a full day, starting in the morning and expecting to come back in the evening.
- Drive down and park at a trolley stop such as Old Town or H st in Chula Vista.
- Take the trolley and buy round trip tickets so you don't have to fight for a ticket machine at the border coming back.
- Take some cash so you do not have to use a card down there.
- Have the wife leave the big purse at home, use a fanny pack.
- Walk across, be sure you have NO weapons or a stray bullet anywhere or even a tactical type of knife.
- Get the prohibited list when you cross the border so you'll know what NOT to bring back.
- Walk over to Avenida Revolucion and enjoy the sights, sounds and the people vying for your $$$$$.
- Buy some stuff, 90% of the fun is bargining with the sales people as they make an art form of it.
- Have a shot or two of Tequila and watch the touristas.
- Down the stairs on the East side of Revolucion going to a collection of shops is a GREAT steak restaurant with a huge grill and they make great meals. Been eating there for 40+ years I imagine.
- Expect to stand in line for a long time when coming back as it will be slow.

Above all have fun! We don't go there much any more as we are getting older but when relatives from the east coast come out, we do the trip for their benefit.

I've not been since I took that photo.

I have not heard anything that would keep me from going if it was important to do so - but I would not go for fun. YMMV.

I use to spend a lot of time south of the border many years ago. Rode my motorcycle down to the end of the paved road below Santo Tomas before the road to the tip was completed. Spent time camped out in the mountains & beaches in Baja. I went down a couple of months ago to get some body work done on my wife's car at Los Panchos. First time I'd been down since 2008. Dropped the car off and walked back across the border. The stairs still smelled like pee, and the line to walk across the border went clear back to and past the overhead walkway. It seemed more dirty and congested, but maybe I was more accepting when I was younger. I wouldn't go unless I had a real reason.

Think outside the sphere.
They probably have lots of ideas for things to do with her.

Discreet Sex Toys, Vibrators, Dildos & Adult Products

Looks a lot cheaper and safe as long as you don't get mixed up with the vibrator cartel. The handcuffs look like fun.

Went once with the '03 (girlfriend at the time). Never again. Dirty to say the least, and generally had no redeeming qualities. The day we went, a couple from SD were detained by the cops. Husband was taken to an ATM and forced to empty their account, while wife was gang-rapped by the po po. Classy place.

35 years ago......in that craphole......some pendejo was whacking the mule under the bartop. Splurted towards my GF. I backhanded the guy and then had to pay the local PD off as the whackee ended up being the Chief's kid.....or so they say.

No worse than some places in East LA, but farther to get to and the border crossing sucks balls.....

Wow, IT LIVES! (this thread that is)

Never did make it to SD or TJ... on a brighter note thinking of doing Thanksgiving in SD this year, but not planning a trip to TJ... is it safe to go to the zoo?

Looked at flying to Cabo... but heck for the price of air/hotel packages we could go to Hawaii!
