Well, here's a woman driver you can all love (at least until she gets the press attention that seems to weird you guys out):

Ashley Freiberg becomes first woman to win an overall IMSA GT3 Cup race at Watkins Glen - Autoweek

Very nice!

Would like to see her race...but no races nearby. :(

Sheesh...I can't remember the last time I saw an IMSA race!!

this is very true! danica is not even close to her caliber in her day. mouton never made $20mm /year either! mouton was a true credit to racers whereas danica is has taken far, far more from racing than she could ever hope to give back.

and to those who say she is a road racer...lol! my guess is that you did not see her run at Sonoma...calling her a back marker is not fair to the other back markers.

Minimize it all we want, she's the only woman to ever WIN a big league race (Indy car). She's the only woman to win a pole (Daytona 500 [A big deal]), and she was only a rookie. She's the only woman with a real shot to win the Indy 500 with a few laps to go (She was in the lead, finished 4th). She's the highest finishing woman in the Cup series ever (I believe 12th this year).

So sure, she'll probably never win a race, but she sure knows how to make a splash. Ironically, Milka Dunno, excellent race car driver for sure, was run out of Indy car because her inability to keep race pace was deemed unsafe.

the only woman to have won a big league race huh? I always wonder what ford and lynn st. james would think of that statement?

Yeah, there are quite a few women that have done well. Ms. Mouton was always my favorite. I also liked Shelley Anderson, who won several NHRA National events in a top fuel car and held the low ET record for a while.

She finished 2nd in the 24 hours of Daytona. She raced in the Rolex Series and won several races. She's a VERY good racer.

Dude, What have you been smoking? Milka is Horrible and always has been. She is a Moving Chicane.

The Panoz Series was a Woman only Series & she lucked out!

She has a Win in a Rolex DP, but that was because of Andy Wallace's Driving.

She was the WORST Driver in IRL, She was Bad in Nationwide, Bad in ARCA etc!

She was only out there because of Venezuela's & CITCO's Sponsorship

Even Danica thinks she Sucks!

Ain't exactly a "proper catfight", but now I'm interested in Nascar once again :)

This is the same reason I never bought a powerboat despite living on a lake. I wouldn't be content with anything short of a 40+ foot Fountain.

Hydro, I fully understand you on this.

In other words, for you, the upper limits... aka the pinnacle... of everything... is the only thing worth having because you couldn't be content with anything less.

This explains your irrational opinion of Danica Patrick as someone who "shouldn't be in racing" because she hasn't won as many races as you think she should have (by now).

Thanks for spelling it out. It is as I suspected. :)

Good read........

Y! SPORTS

"COMMENTARY | Brickyard 400 winner Ryan Newman doesn't have a ride for 2014, but Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Danica Patrick does.

That, in a nutshell, sums up what is wrong with NASCAR right now.

Once upon a time, drivers would get noticed for their talent displayed at lower levels and given rides based on that ability. Success would generally lead to more sponsorship, and a career as a successful driver in Cup would be born with the proper funding in place to build competitive cars."

"....On the opposite end of the spectrum is Danica Patrick. She is a rookie who rarely deserves a mention on the Sunday broadcast due to running in the back of the pack or laps down, but she has the most important thing in this day and age -- lots of sponsorship money behind her.

She could run 40th every week, and GoDaddy would continue to unload a Brinks truck at the back door of Stewart-Haas Racing, because she is what advertising people call "marketable.""

Danica's driving talent is obvious to everyone. Including her pit crew.

Its Danica's attitude I dislike most. Her driving isn't terrible, but her feed back is awful. Try listening in for an entire race on her team's radio, its awful. The biggest thing - is she needs to shut up and not key the radio unless the team asks her a question, or there is a mechanical issue.

People claimed Kyle Larson wrecked her at the last Daytona race, I was streaming the in car camera and radio for her, she reached over for the radio button IN THE TRANSITION AREA OF THE BANKING!!!!! WITH A CAR ON HER BUMPER TANDEM PUSH DRAFTING!!!! I saw that spin coming before her car got out from under her. I started an eye roll, she started her radio transmission that was cut short when the car got out from under her.

I think she may of learned something, as lately, I don't hear/see her keying the radio in bad spots since.

Some drivers, I don't really care if they win or not, I like watching them in the sport. Marcos Ambrose makes a ton of mistakes from trying to find the edge, and often crosses it. He's a very likeable guy in person, and does a lot to support other racers.

A real nail in the coffin for why I wouldn't like Danica, is having separate boyfriend(s) and husband at the same time... I haven't been too keen on Kurt Busch since his divorce insta-remarriage either. Yeah, I don't like Stenhouse Jr either for sneaking in like that, even if it is a "loose" marriage.

strupgolf 07-29-2013 12:01 PM

If anyone thinks her Daytona pole wasn't a scripted event done by nascar, I've got some land for sale. I don't hate her but I don't she's a good driver.

Tervuren 07-29-2013 12:04 PM

Oh, only 11 out of 64 starting drivers have won races this season. If only wins count, should the others just park it? Danica has won as many races so far this year, as last year's champion has...

I bet those other 64 driver won in the past in some form of racing unlike Danica who has only won once since getting out of her go-kart.
