Is this profound?

A friend posted this on "Faceplant". Is "it" at simple as this? ... Discuss

Meh - glass half empty/full thaing, I think.

One could just as reasonably proclaim: "What motivates us most in life is the picture in our head of how it's supposed to be."

Discuss what: life's half emptiness? Or life's half fullness?

The above verbiage is my spontaneous response to your post...off the top of my head...the empty half.

Oh...and i think nothing's simple.

Good points, Dari.

I see; Expectations. And, Yep, that messes with people. Always has.

I suppose that's why "hope" was considered one of the worst evils let out of Pandora's box. ....that is, Hope, is the expectation of a positive outcome when you have evidence to the contrary. (ie "I hope it doesn't rain" --because you see the dark clouds building)

A whole lot of people bought into the delusion of "Hope" a few years ago. --completely ignoring that evidence to the contrary part-- and now facing result of that ignored evidence to the contrary part. :-/

Seeing that I am currently going through a separation from my wife that looks like it is headed down the road to a divorce, I would say that this statement hits the nail on the head for me. I was always the guy considering "how it SHOULD be" instead of just being happy about how things were.

I also agree with the half empty/half full thought. I guess it could go both ways. I am just in a crappy mood lately, haha.

That FB post is really a pretty important aspect of Zen, isn't it?

‘Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.’ ~Lao Tzu

“You'd be surprised how many people violate this simple principle every day of their lives and try to fit square pegs into round holes, ignoring the clear reality that Things Are As They Are.”

“A way of life that keeps saying 'Around the next corner, above the next step,' works against the natural order of things and makes it so difficult to be happy and good.”

There is so much wisdom in this thread that if it has not been read, then there are many people(men and women) walking around with question marks above their heads. It is the old story, the grass is greener on the other side when really it isn't. Unless of course your marriage is totally flawed to begin with. As was my first marriage. 2nd is good

The individual does not define life.
Life defines the individual.

Biggest problem on FB is douchebags who repost images that are all text. It clutters up the feeds with inane fluffy feelgood crap that has nothing to do with me, or even the people who shared it. It's schlock, and it makes me cranky

This is the only profound statement.

Not because of the "nothing's simple," but because of the "I think" (thank you, Rene Descartes) coupled with it. More properly stated as, "I think. Nothing's simple."

That is a lot better than me, me , I I I such as, I got up this morning , ran 10 miles, worked out 2 hours and then had a meal etc. ad nauseam. If you respond to these kind of facebook posts in a positive manner then u get more of the same. I don't mind the feelgood text because it shows that folks are thinking about others as opposed to being narcististic.

Some folks see things as they really are and try to make things better.

Other folks only see a picture of what they wish things were like and it forces them to make things worse.

We should elect you king of facebook so you can dictate what people can and can't post.
BTW, what the heck is facebook anyway?
