Recommendations for a new wireless router
Looking for a new wireless router. Issues with current one is range. Older home that has plaster and lath walls. Router needs to work with a laptop and an Ipad. Thanks for all suggestions. Spencer

The express has a shorter range. Its meant to use as a travel router, print server, or wireless speaker jack....

A new specification is coming out so I would wait until the manufactures come out with it.

Who cares about new specification or that fancy netgear router.
What makes the apple airport so great?

The Extreme also supports more simultaneous connections. I've used an Express as my home router for the last several years and have never had a problem connecting with my iPad and my wife's PC laptop.

I have a cheap Netgear I got at Wal-Mart for ~$35. Has5 devices wired to it, 2 VPNs most of the time, (laptop and dedicated hardware VPN VOIP router), has 5 wireless connections regularly, (2 laptops, Kindle Fire, Wii, iPhone) and have never had any problems at all.
Good thing about WalMart, if you buy it, and it doesn't meet your range requirements, you can take it back. |

My wireless gurus at work go thru all the brands, they seem to prefer TP-link of late... 1/2 the price of apple stuff, works the same...

Another Netgear N Router user. Paid around $70 for it. I have an older (1926) two story brick home with all lathe and plaster walls. Router is on the first floor. Can reach everywhere upstairs, the front porch and the back patio.
