2 babies left in cars in triple-digit heat near Indianapolis, 1 dies

2 babies left in cars in triple-digit heat near Indianapolis, 1 dies | Fox News

GREENFIELD, Ind. – A 4-month-old girl has died and a 16-month old girl has been hospitalized after both were left trapped in cars in suburban Indianapolis during near-record triple-digit heat Saturday, Fox 59 reports.

In Greenfield, the 4-month-old was trapped in her car seat for what police say was an "extended period of time" in the middle of the afternoon.

She was rushed to the hospital by a family member where she was pronounced dead. Her father, 19-year-old Joshua Strycinski, was arrested and preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

In nearby Fishers, police broke a side window of a Ford Explorer SUV to rescue a 16-month-old girl locked inside.

Police were called to parking lot of a store called 'Simply Chic' and found the child, police spokesman Tom Weger said. Officers said the temperature inside the vehicle was 124 degrees. The girl began having seizures shortly after being taken inside an air-conditioned building, he said.

The girl, whose name was not released, was taken to Peyton Manning Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. Weger said he does not know her condition. A hospital spokeswoman said she could not provide information without the child's name.

Weger said the girl's mother, 30-year-old Meg Trueblood, has been charged with neglect. She allegedly told police she had left the child inside the car for an hour while she went shopping.

Saturday's 105-degree temperature was 1 degree shy of Indianapolis' all-time high, set on July 14, 1936.

I hope the parents are put in cars with the windows rolled up for a day (or three!)

We read about the same thing here in AZ a few times per season. If I EVER see a child stuck in a car in this weather, I will not hesitate to smash the window with the butt of my pistol and call the police after I take the kid indoors. No excuse for this stuff. None.

The mother should be charged w/ murder. You wouldn't leave a child in the sun at 105 degrees, why would you lock them in a car knowing the temp would get even higher. Death is a given.

The simple thing to do is lock them in a car, while handcuffed and tied to the seat. Park the car in the sun and see how long it takes them to die. Leave them out all day to be sure.

Even in temperate climates, I have never left my children in the car......not even my dogs deserve that fate.

Now....my ex.....fair game.

This is where they should go with a big sign telling everyone what they did - no food or water for a week.....and fair game to spit or throw items at them....that would send a message:

Makes you wonder how many kids are left unattended in cars when it's not 105 out, but still a stupid (and in many places illegal) thing to do.

Yeah Patrick.....I agree. The good news is we have plenty of speed traps to protect us from all those awful "speeders"!!!

Kids and pets in hot cars - oh well.....

Whats the difference in anger levels here between killing a baby in a womb, or leaving a baby in a car? Maybe because one is out in the open more obvious to see I guess. Things done outside the public eye don't get the same public outcry.

Our world (society) is full of HYPOCRITES. That much we have always known.

Humans are pretty despicable for the most part.

Why I prefer dogs for the most part.

Amen to that. It's happened a few times that I can recall, the good Samaritan has been hailed as a hero (rightly so).

Abortion is the law of the land. Public outcry doesn't seem to make much difference on that. This is stupidity and needs to be punished severely. I ran up on a dog at the old Pine Bluff AR airshow left in a hot car (August). I found a farmers truck with a shovel in it and broke out the sideglasses. I'd been drinking of course. Got quite a few cheers out of the deal but we all did move along rather quickly.
