For a reason that totally escapes me, some people feel a strong need to believe in this sort of nonsense.
I used to work with a guy who was absolutely convinced that invisible UFOs were watching him 24 hours a day and he would try to get in a heated argument with anyone who didn't believe it.

He actually sent away for detailed plans on how to convert his truck to run on water. It cost him $50, not counting the cost to repair his engine

I watched part of this show and it was obvious that is was fake. I later read that it is considered "docufiction". Basically, they take real events (like dolphins washing up on shore) and then build a fake story around it. This mermaid show was not intended to be real from the beginning (and it showed).

I caught it in the middle, had it on in the background, and I had no idea if it was supposed to be real or not. I couldn't figure out how it was supposed to be real, but I also couldn't figure out why it had such a serious tone.

At least with Ancient Aliens, it's pretty easy to see through their core premise.

I thought mermaids were thought to have been manatees to weary and hard up sailors of the 18th century?

It is no different that the shows "Looking for Bigfoot" or Ghost Hunters. 100% BS and they know it before they air it. It is just TV filler. I never watch any of that garbage.

Watched some of it... docufiction is exactly what it seemed like.

I didn't see the beginning to see if there was anything said or shown in the opening credits to tip you off, but you'd think that the Discovery Channel would do that.

Otherwise, their credibility suffers somewhat, eh?
