Poked myself in the eye!

Riding my bike yesterday. Hot! Sweaty! My eyes were stinging from the constant stream of sweat. I took a break to squeegee my forehead with my gloves. I was holding my glasses when I tried to touch the terry cloth potion to my head. I felt my eyeball take the hit. I think it deflected down. Dented and sprung back up. Eye is tender and my wife says it looks wrinkly. The pain is very minimum. I KNOW one of you guys have done something similar. Hehe! I might drop in on my eye doc tomorrow. Are headbands uncool?

I would go to the eye doc asap.Why? 1) Peace of mind
2) Relieve the discomfort.
Eye discomfort is uncool period!
I find that I wear some form of glasses all the time now whether they are reading glasses, sunglasses, presc. glasses etc

Headbands are uncool, but I have to wear one when I jog or ride my bike. It totally helps keep the sweat out of my eyes.

I'm practically bald. I use a GUTR with a headband or head sweat. It channels the sweat to drain around your eyes.

You can buy some Rudy Project wrap glasses and pick up a few dozen comp packs for them. Each kit comes with a sweat band that sticsk to the glasses above the lenses and nose piece (and RP stickers for above lenses).They usuallyl give them away but if not they're only a few bucks per.

They even make prescription lenses

Thanks for the headband ideas. I might just go for some wristbands for a safer wipe down. Eye is better. But red.

Many of the pros wear a cycling cap under their helmets. It does two things, keep sweat away and shield your eyes from the sun. It isn't as bulky as a headband so it doesn't bunch up under there. Cheap enough that it maybe worth a try.

Take care of your eyes! I scratched my cornea in a drunken misadventure, and had to lube up my eye every night for over a year afterwards to keep from re-agitating it. I was lucky to not have any vision impairment!

That was a fun night tho!

When an elderly Indian patient came to Dr. V. Seetharaman with persistent pain in his eye, what the surgeon found was reminiscent of a far-fetched alien movie plot: a live, five inch (13cm) worm.

On examining the 75-year-old at Mumbai's Fortis Hospital this week, the eye expert was shocked by the highly unusual sight of the writhing parasite and had to operate speedily to remove it before serious damage was caused.

"It was wriggling there under the conjunctiva," Seetharaman said, referring to the thin membrane lining the eye. "It was the first time in my career of 30 years that I had seen such a case."

Retired patient P.K. Krishnamurthy had been suffering for more than two weeks with redness and irritation before the doctor pin-pointed the threadlike creature under a microscope Wednesday.

"He was also confused and very much disturbed," said Seetharaman.

The specialist removed the worm by making a small opening in the conjunctiva -- a 15-minute operation that was observed by the patient's horrified wife, Saraswati.

"It just kept moving and jumping; it was scary for a bit," she told the Mumbai Mirror.

The patient was relieved of his symptoms while the worm, which was alive for another 30 minutes after surgery, was sent to the hospital's microbiologists to be identified.

Seetharaman had previously only heard of worms of about an inch being removed. "Probably this is a record," he said.

He suggested the creature could have entered the patient from a cut in his foot or from eating raw or improperly cooked food, before entering the bloodstream and traveling to the eye.

"If the worm was not removed it could have gone into the layers of the eye and caused visual loss," he said. "It could have entered the brain and caused major neurological problems."

Dr. S. Narayani, the hospital's medical director, agreed it was an extremely rare case. "We have a very active ophthalmology department and we have not come across a case like this in the last 10 years," she said.

I once sprayed super-glue into my eye by misstake. Fortunately, we have ophthalmologic ER in my town (no kidding, eyes is all they do) so they dug out all hardened particles w/o permanent damages.

While biking home from ER, happy that I dodged the bullet, a big green bug hit me right into my other eye!
