Not your intended demographic but as someone that had kids a bit later I used to get asked it.

Their were multiple reasons and at one point it looked like we may not have been able to have any at all.

As to the people that ask you, none of their ****ing business, they should just STFU.

I'm in that boat. My wife is 31 though, so I just tell folks there's still time. Recently while we were visiting a lot of friends in Europe, that question came up a lot, as all my married friends there have kids. I just said that we weren't ready to forgoe those kinds of trips (like the one we were then on) for another 15-18 yrs. by having kids. I don't want kids and don't feel bad about saying so when people press further.

McLovin 07-09-2012 10:11 AM

So, why don't you have kids? :)

I think a lot people are naturally curious about anything that is out of the statistical norm.

I'm not really one of those, I don't really care why anyone has or doesn't have kids. But even if I were curious, I'd never ask, b/c (1) none of my biz, and (2) there's a good chance the answer is uncomfortable or sad. I.e., "Ol' Vash is shooting blanks," etc.

For a witty response, maybe try "We've tried, but she's had 4 very painful and physically and psychologically devastating miscarriages, but thanks for asking."

Just say you do have kids, but keep them chained up in the basement.

Yea, but like you said you would not ask these same questions. Neither would I, and I get asked a lot too.

I think some people feel the need to dominate others, and this is one of their ways. Asking questions which are none of their business.

"We wanted to have children until we met yours..."

widebody911 07-09-2012 10:30 AM

We get that all time. My reply is "Why did you decide to propagate despite your intellectual and aesthetic defects?"

"Oh but we do! We have the much superior 4-legged variety!" :D :D :D

UconnTim97 07-09-2012 10:42 AM

"Do you really think this world is large enough to handle another version of me?"

or

"We are having too much fun, why would we stop?"

One of those usually does the trick. :)

wdfifteen 07-09-2012 10:47 AM

"They died."

"No after 20 years of marriage we don't have kids, but practicing making them in bed is still fun......"

I figure a old Morman co-worker that filled up all bench seats of a full sized chevy suburbean with 8 kids filled my kid quota and then some.............and he always wondered how I could afford to buy new big screen TV's and go to Hawaii or the Carribean on scuba trips once or twice a year............I think they went through 3 gallons of milk and 5 loads of laundry a day.....

that poor women didn't just have kids, she popped out a whole litter of puppies every 9 months for 8 years, maybe a twin or two was mixed in, but her vag has to be an eco tunnel with full reverb.......

As a guy w/kids, I don't have witty responses, but I have accurate ones:

- because you don't have $15-20K per year to throw at each child
- because you enjoy sleeping more than 2h in a row at night
- because you see no need to get intimate with poop in all its forms
- because you hate the entire family catching childcare diseases every other week
- because your Porsche only fits 2
- because you like being able to go anywhere, anytime, at the drop of a hat

etc....

They're still cool (kids), but man, they are a lot of work !!

+1. Can't put kids in a pen/squirt with water/feed bones and scraps without getting a call from social services.

Zeke 07-09-2012 11:23 AM

When asked, my first wife would reply, "No, and I don't have leprosy either."

She was not nice. Foul-mouthed, angel faced beotch.

hahahha...this would have been perfect the time my friend's dad asked me..hahahh.

dipso 07-09-2012 11:36 AM

We don't have kids.
When asked I 'Why not'.
I just say 'I don't like kids".

PorscheGAL 07-09-2012 11:36 AM

That question does not stop after you have a child. We have one 12 year old and I have been asked "when are you going to have a brother or sister for him" more times than I can count.

There is never going to be a shortage of people questioning your choice with or without children.
