				New Guitar Day!!

After much trying and playing and testing out various models I finally found and bought my new (used) acoustic. I played Martins, Larrivees, Takamines, Gibsons (before I fainted from the sticker and put it back), Eastmans, Seagulls. Pretty much everything I could get my hands on. I wanted a cutaway acoustic for sure, I like playing blues and access to those upper frets is nice for solos and such. I really looked hard at Eastman and the less expensive Martins, but I kept coming back to Taylor. My budget was no more than $1200 total so I thought I was priced out of Taylor. I eventually decided that if I really wanted a Taylor, better to hold off and buy what I really want vs. buy something lesser and want another guitar in a year. I played several Taylor models and really loved the 414s. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the Ovankol back and sides. It sounded great but Ovankol is a very orange colored wood to me and I just wasn't crazy about the look. Plus a new 414CE in Ovankol is $1799. Out of the budget. So I started surfing Craigslist here locally. I checked Ebay but was leery of buying a guitar sight (and sound) unseen. Then I saw an ad for a 414CE Fall Limited edition for sale here locally. I emailed the guy and he was asking $1400 for the guitar. I offered $1200 and he took the price. I drove out to meet him and oh my God this guitar is untouched!! There is not a single scratch anywhere, no dings, no nothing. Bought it on the spot. So, here is my new (used) 2008 Taylor 414CE Fall Limited edition. The limited edition part just means that it has rosewood back and sides instead of Ovankol (score!!! No orange wood for me). Plays beautifully, all electronics work and still not a scratch on it. I think I got a hell of a deal because this guitar retails new for $2200. Here's the shrine as it currently is configured. American standard telecaster, American made Highway One Strat with American standard electronics, Tradition Les Paul with Wolfetone Dr. Vintage humbuckers (Thanks Wolfe!) and the new baby. I keep the Taylor in the case with a humdifier when it's not being played too much but I had to hang it on the wall for a pic with its cousins.

Very nice. Nice body size, which should give you good presence and resonance.

Very nice score indeed! Would love to hear a recording of those DrV's some time. Speaking of guitars, a while back we were tasked to repair a very old '30's lap steel pickup. A humbucker that predates the Seth Lover/Gibson design by several years. The bobbins on it were toast, so we had to rebuild them...

Rick - Beautiful and nice choice. Not to steal your show but did anyone here catch the CBS Sunday AM show interview on Peter Frampton and his beloved Gibson Les Paul? If you haven't seen it, any guitar lover would enjoy it. Damn guitar is 'alive' and the way humble, musician first Frampton describes it is so perfect. Scott - (have 84 coupe too
